When KLM donated a retired 747-300 combi (half PAX, half freight!) to the museum at Lelystad (EHLE) they decided to dismantle it a good bit and put it on a barge to bring it down. And that has a 1300m sealed runway!

Not a lot of space between the outboard wheels and the runway edge is there !!.. Congrats go out to the flight deck crew .. I assume the SP has the same wheel base as the 747-200 in the photos . I wonder when that one flew in ??

Here's the airport... and I am told that the plane stopped before the intersection of the runways!

 

And this is where it's parked now... Pretty cool!

 

That's quite a donation! I watched a show on Discovery where they take old planes apart, and sell off servicable parts.. and they made millions off an old 747... I must assume they raided it for parts...

Have you seen the 747-200 at the Longreach airport, Had a tour through it the other day...:big_grin: Pretty nice:thumb_up:!!

 

Apparently it was donated as well, something like 6.5million bucks worth they told us....
