Guest Debra Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Hi I don't really know what to say....I'm George Brown's wife and I still have our wonderful 1946 Piper Cub, he use to brag about. I also have a Jodel, which is a bit rugged (incredibly ugly paint job) but reliable, I'm told by it's previous owner. George had a great trip flying it back from Ballarat last November. Perhaps now I will login a little more often, and see what everyone is up to.
Guest Decca Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Hello Debra. Glad you dropped in. I’m Derek Cooper, who helped George with the Jodel when he came through Ballarat. There’s nothing I can say that would make up for his loss, but the brief time I shared with him created a bond that is impossible to lose. Welcome to these forums. Decca.
Guest Debra Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Thanks for the Welcome. Yeah....George was like that. Where ever he went he made instant friends. It's good to know you met him. Were you the one that helped him when he was stuck in the Jodel with the brakes on and no hope of getting because of it wanting to fly off?
Guest Decca Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Yes I think so. It was SO windy that day the aircraft kept lifting off the tailwheel, and every time he tried to taxi, it was so light that it just weather-cocked back into the wind. Do you fly? Do you still own the the Cub & the Jodel? Decca.
Guest Debra Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 No I don't fly yet....but I'm planning on giving it my best! George was going to teach me in the Jodel. Yes I still own the Cub & Jodel. They have been sitting in the hangar far too long now. The Bindoon boys are helping me to maintain them and one only one guy out there can fly the Cub..so it should be back in the air soon. Deb
BLA82 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Debra, :welcome:I have joined these forums since your sad loss but have been lucky enough to read over George's posts and had a great time doing so. All the best for learning to fly.
Admin Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 Debra, please let me say that George is still with us here in these forums and he always will be - for those that didn't know george you can at any time have a chat with him by just doing a search on his user name browng A friend that will always be here with us!
geoffreywh Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 you can hardly have a better aeroplane than the Jodel, ugly paint notwithstanding! Which model is it... I have a D11....
Guest Debra Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Hi Geoff Yes it is a D11 Jodel - Sky Princess Model..It is home built ..it's registration is VH-EMH. I know little of flight in a Jodel...George bought it in November and died in Dec and we were so busy before Christmas I never got to fly in it. I only know of flight in the J3Cub. I spent three weeks of flying in it when we left Riddells Creek and eventually landed in York WA. An amazing experience... Picasa Web Albums - George - Cub Trip Site using Ctrl Click This is the web site George created of all the photos I was able to take of the flight as we only flew at 70knots and approx 1500/2000ft most of the time, if my memory serves me correct. It was like floating above the landscape. Debra
facthunter Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Piper Cub. Debra, the Cub is a classic aeroplane. I PM'd George a few times. (will still be on your files) and we kicked a few basic concepts around this forum. Very good ( and a bit brave) of you to come on and I hope it is a very positive experience for you. We miss his input.. Nev..
Guest Debra Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Hi Hi Nev.... The 'Bit Brave' bit has got me????? More like a bit confused as to where, what and how to manoeuvre around this site....and I thought woman were complex creatures. I am enjoying reading threads, posts etc...relating to George and his imput. Thanks for messaging me... Debra
BigPete Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 G'day Debra - I always enjoyed George's posts and I come across them now and then when reading thru the older posts on these forums. When I do it's like finding an old friend that you haven't seen for a while. I never met your George, but like so many members here, I appreciated and looked forward to his contributions. He was one of us. Whenever I see a J3 cub, It reminds me of George. kindest regards
geoffreywh Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 Hi Debra, Thanks for the foto's The cub is gorgeous! The Jodel can be on the RAA register. It would be quite a bit faster than the cub and a lot more economical too. When I am up your way I'll give you a call................
