Ultralights Posted November 24, 2008 Author Posted November 24, 2008 Wedderburn is a difficult strip, it slopes up to the south 3 deg. and is surrounded on all sides by large tracts of forest, so in any sign of a breeze, you get quite severe rotor turbulence over the strip. and with the decent slope, it will require a take off with a good tail wind, or it has to be a decent wind to take off up slope. being surrounded entirely by forest, if you do get into trouble, there are simply no options, except maybe a BRS chute.
Guest Ideal Line Posted December 14, 2008 Posted December 14, 2008 So, what is the latest? Is it still closing tomorrow?
Guest David C Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 Sadly Hoxton Park Airport is no more .. The runway was ploughed up today and there are now just large furrows where the runway stood . I thought at least there may have been a period of time whereby the runway surface was decommed and marked with the regulation X's , but no .... the bulldozers moved in today and between 9am and 4 pm the runway was ploughed into the ground , less than 24 Hrs after the official closure .. A sad day indeed .. Dave C
Guest basscheffers Posted December 16, 2008 Posted December 16, 2008 There are several GAAPs where RA-Aus do solo, with special dispensation from CASA. There really is no reason you should not be able to get one for Bankstown? The dispensation at Parafield is ONLY for flights operated by Forsyth Aviation and some other rules (like a medical) so again, if Bankstown only wants high performance RA-Aus planes, that can be stipulated too. Parafield controllers don't seem to think any less of us - or at least they do not act as if they do.
Ultralights Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 seeing as we operate Tecnams, and Jabirus, we are not flying an aircraft type that already isnt based there, so there will be no issues with performance differences... fingers crossed casa do the righ thing.if they havent already
