Hello, I'm reynald from Lorient...

...Lorient is in france, on the South West coast of brittany. I'm flying with the gliders of the club (located in Loyat near Ploermel) above brittany and the "golfe du Morbihan". It is a very nice experience but the wheather here is... like in Brittany!

So I learn to fly with ultralights (Skyranger).

I have an other interest: I'm owner of a 4wd car and I'm often in the Sahara (Libya, Algeria, Tunesia...)

Otherwise, I'm working a little bit to pay for all of that (for a watermaker company)

I'll be in Australia next year for 2 month, and I have a question: does anyone knows if with a french licence I can fliy with ultralight in Australia?

What are the rules with foreign flying licences?

Thank you.

Hello and welcome!

I'm pen pals with an Air traffic Controller in Brittany. He will know the answer to this, so I'll let you know once I get his response.

Where in Australia will you be flying?

Thank you.

At the moment the first step is to know if we will be allowed to fly in australia, if there are not too much administrative barrier.

Where in Australia? We don't know, no flight plan yet. Will arrive in Sydney (may be!) and we want to cross one part of Australia, but don't know which part yet: may be something representative of your country as a part of the desert, part of the coast, mountains...

This was my friends response:

________

Yes, i know Lorient, because we are controlling above it.

I really don't know if his licence can be available in your country. i will ask my friends.

I think the best for me is to phone to the DAC (civil aviation direction) in Brest. and also to send mails to the civil aviation in Australia. like this, he will know for sure.

When we wanted to fly in Namibia, it was not too much complicated. We had a test in english for pilots, and few tests (3 hours) in little planes. as in the desert, u can be lost very easily without any VOR, and few towers. u have to rely on your map and gps.

so i will ask my friends and say u!

Hi there,

Unfortunately, we will not come to Australia this time. It is too expensive.

Here is the project: défi-myopathie - English

there is only 1 page in English.

The project is on the good way:

We are going to cross one part of the Sahara (Tunisia and Libya) as it is cheap and the rules are ... "as in Africa"

One experienced ultralight pilot will come with us with his Skyranger. He has already crossed africa and it will be new for him because he has never been above the very high dunes of Murzuk (on the maps it is large x long: 2° x 2°) of old high dunes (300 to 600m high). Here is the trip: défi-myopathie - L'itinéraire se peaufine

Libya is the best preserved desert as the contry was closed to any body for long time (it is still not so easy to visit), and we can find prehistoric pictures and pieces in the desert: SAHARA LIBYEN - Paysages et gravures du désert occidental

At the biginning it was a personal trip. Now it has changed because a lots of people are interested in the project and it becomes a "human adventure" more than the technical/sportive adventure: The first part of the project will take place in Tunisia where handicaped people will join us for 1 or more days above/in/on the dunes (we have some 4WD cars to help).

Tunisia is one of the most famous country for europeans people, they have a lots of resorts and the ONTT (Tunisian official organisation for tourism) will help us giving us clearance to cross the tunisian desert (today it is closed because of AlQuaida) with a ground military assistance.

After we will go to Libya.

Some companies will help us, giving us money

There will have 1 TV cameraman

We have already mooved a lots of people.

We are still looking for some money for this project (patronage, as it is for a charity: for reaserchs for the muscular dystrophy) if you want to help us, you, your company... you are welcome.

Alexandre and Nicolas will die within few years because of this deasies... I'll come to australia later... i have all my time. Alex doesn't!

Sorry for my poor english. Thank you for reading and for your help.

Cheers.

Reynald

Wow, that sounds like a very impressive and worthy cause for your project :)

I hope it goes well for you all, you should post some pictures on the forum when you get back!

Wishing you the best of luck for your flight, project and Alexandre and Nicolas. I hope that you can all share some great memories while you have, what I'm certain will be a fantastic experience.

:)
