seb7701 Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Despite having had a pilot certificate for the last 6 years, I am finally about to get a chance to do my nav endorsement (yes, I am ashamed.....)and wondered what the most easy to understand text book/manual would be?? I have done a 2 hour nav a while ago and have 'Ultralight Navigation' by Des RYCROFT, but figured that text books may have changed and there might be a better option now. ANy opinions? I am live a few hours from the nearest flight opportunity and thus would like to get some practise in at home re planning etc. Any tips would be appreciated.
Guest Pop-top Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 To be completely honest I haven't found a really decent text book on Nav's. I tried a few and they all had slightly different ways of explaining it. I found the best thing was to sit down and do some theory time with an Instructor they are able paraphrase everything you need to know to pass the exam and best of all it will be in a way that you can understand and put into practice in simple terms.
Guest airsick Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 I am a fan of the Bob Tait books. They are aimed at PPL, CPL, etc. but all the theory is applicable to RAA flying. The PPL book is around $75 (?) and should give you all you need. Bob Tait's Aviation Theory School
Guest Pop-top Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 actually on second thoughts...I've heard a few rave about the "Jim Davis" books too.
Thx1137 Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 I have the Aviation Theory Centers Navigation for the CASA PPL/CPL Day VFR Syllabus book and it is ok, I think it could be a little better. I haven't been able to compare it with anything else though. Steven.
seb7701 Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 Thanks gents. Bob TAIT is probably a reliabel option, but I had forgotten all about Jim DAVIS. Will have to check him out also.
