Guest Brett Campany Posted February 25, 2009 Posted February 25, 2009 The gentleman in the middle of the pic using his mobile phone was the senior pilot [both pilots from memory were in their early 30's ].They also carried 300kg of spare parts and 3 or 4 mechanics in case of breakdown. They have a standing order to keep a lookout for cafes in case of an emergency landing so they can wait there while repairs are carried out. Cheers T87 Sounds about right....bloody birdies!!

Guest Sharp End Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 Slarti, thanks for taking some great shots of the FR 74 Hunter. Hope I didn't create too much carnage turning the thing while taxiing... the ground crew parked the old girl right up against the crowd barriers!

Ben did mention they had to land at Jaspers Brush just recently due to Tail rotor problems [seaking] and wait there for repairs to be carried out.Cheers:rotary:

Hope I didn't create too much carnage turning the thing while taxiing... the ground crew parked the old girl right up against the crowd barriers! No worries. That must have been a buzz to even taxi. I would have loved to see it fly. There are kids from the crowd who will never know what it is to hear music, but it was worth it. That thing is LOUD. I love the shot of the Hawk crew with fingers in ears leaning and looking.
Guest Sharp End Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 We're hoping to get the seat signed off (CASA has very strict requirements for this) and obtain sponsorship for the fuel (about $6000 an hour). Then maybe HARS will let me loose! Stay tuned...

Guest Sharp End Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Ahhh, jet noise... the sound of freedom! Seriously, she is a tad noisy and it's exacerbated by the gun ports at certain speeds. We have to work out a profile for training and most probably operate general flying elsewhere to keep the council on side. HARS are very aware of the issues and is probably the most professionally aware organisation I've been involved with, but seeing aircraft like this flying should be a big crowd puller and create a positive increase in numbers visiting the region. A big financial win for a few moments of "blue note" beauty is worth it IMHO!
