Guest Maj Millard Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 We had a recent thunder storm here in Townsville that has written off one C 150, damaged another one, and also damaged an adjacent C 172. All the aircraft were part of a training fleet, were parked outside, and not tied down. Why wern't they tied down you ask ? Because the large private corporation that now owns Townsville airport (and many others) had removed all the steel cable tiedowns previosly installed on the ramp. Not sure why this was done, but they need to put them back...pronto. One C150 had obviously taken flight, and cartwheeled over the other two aircraft, missing several others in the process. One wing spar was broken in the process, and the other wing is very much history also. The particular storm was not considered to be that big a deal by locals, compared to some we've been having. It also pushed around a Beechcraft A36 which was tied down, on the other side of the ramp.
