Yenn Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Victa. One of the very few aircraft to be able to lift double it's empty weight.
facthunter Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Gross weight. Do you mean that the max.AUW is double the empty weight? THAT is a good feat but if so, it is even better because the Victa is stressed for aerobatics and is not composite. The DH Dragon had a reputation for lifting a lot of weight per HP. (only had 2 gypsy major I-c's @ 130 HP each). Someone asked the AUW for a DC-3. I think it is in the 28,000 lb area but they were operated above it in PNG as they operated to a "PK" chart as it was considered a developmental area. Good logic that in a country that has lots of rocks in the clouds. Nev.
skydog Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Sorry Robes, I dont remember you but I dont remember a lot about some of those weekends. Thanks for refueling and loading up though
skydog Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 Love the sound of the sea fury and went for a fly in Matts CT4, very nice indeed so agree with you. I also love the sound, smell of the gas and oil of radial engines. Some one should bottlle it.
stanzahero Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 I'm a fan of the Hawker biplanes (Fury fighter, Audax and Hart bombers). Simple elegant lines with the Hurricane pedigree. Failing that, the BF109G with the DB605A engine. Being the first fuel injected engine in the world (albeit 43 ltr, inverted V12) has to count for something... Stanzahero.
Guest Walter Buschor Posted July 1, 2009 Posted July 1, 2009 ME 109 G ( but any 109 would do ) it's the best - forget the rest! the grey nomad
facthunter Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Pretty? BavarianMotorWerken engine yes, but Pretty? You're not biased are you Valter?
stanzahero Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 umm...the 109s engines were Benz built... MMM... BMW aero engines... Here's a couple of pics I took in Germany. The V12 was a four hundred hp V12 built in 1925.
facthunter Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 DB engine.Yes. DB engine to Bf 109. You are correct. I am confusing the BMW in the FW 190, BMW 801 Radial and water meth injected, Now THAT is a nice plane. I wonder if there are any of them around? Nev
Guest Walter Buschor Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Pretty? BavarianMotorWerken engine yes, but Pretty? You're not biased are you Valter? __________________ Never stop learning. Biased... me...? 'course not . The 109 . and it had a DB engine. So Wonerful it is too... and the rest .... all poetry. How could anyone settle for less when the real thing tastes so good. watch you're 6!! the grey Nomad!
facthunter Posted July 2, 2009 Posted July 2, 2009 Wrong. Yeah, I know I got the engine wrong, but I found out that a few had Junkers Jumo motors in them, when I checked it out. Must move slower sometimes. regards Nev.
Bill Hamilton Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Folks, The FAA Flight Manual gross weight for a DC-3 is 25,000 lb. With undercarriage modifications, essentially a Dakota undercart, around 28,000 lb. WW11 military weight (or Berlin Airlift) 31,000 lb. For many years in Australia, about 1956 until 1998, 26,200 lb --- as a result of a pilot union ruckus, nothing to do with basic airworthiness. Regards,
Guest Howard Hughes Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 40's = F4-U Corsair 50's = PA-23 'Apache' (my first twin) 60's = B747 & Kingair, yes they are still making them! In my opinion the Corsair is the greatest looking airplane of all time!
bones Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Damn, im embassed only even heard of a couple of these planes, guess you get that being a red neck from the sticks, and only finding the internet about 5 years ago
