gofastclint Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 There are many problem with running even 10% ethanol in many aircraft, so how many people are planing to factor this into their current project? once your aircraft can run on the stuff without problems, where are you going to fill up? I see so many benefits to this fuel, the biggest "wow that is cool" is that stuff that grows along the side of/or makes up your airstrip. grass. sit down with mates, have a think tank and build a still to make moon-shine to power your engine. I watched a show a few years back on this old guy in Brazil, he was a crop dusting business operator who for the past 10 years had been running his planes on 100% ethanol that he got for free off his sugar cane growing friends he worked for without the slightest problem to his engines, due to the fact that the aircraft were set up correctly. What are your thoughts, remembering that we are talking about an aircraft that will run on 100% ethanol with out ANY problems............
gofastclint Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 So i guess people will be starting to grow molasses grass on the side of their strips from now on.
geoffreywh Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 ha ha good luck, I worked with pure ethanol burning engines in speedway. Carb icing will take on a whole new meaning, and your crank is going to love 13 to 1 compression....oh and if there is ever a fire..you wont be able to see it! great stuff ethanol. for speedway.
Tomo Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Well I've been thinking about all that to alot lately also, I've done alot of experimenting with Hydrogen and water in combustion engines. But it just isn't practical yet, and the same with the ethanol to I think... Bio diesels seem to be working pretty well, maybe we need to look at that, Diesel engines, wouldn't that be good:thumb_up: But what we really need to do is start with a clean sheet of paper, rather than trying to modify engines that run well on what it was designed to run on. Electric seems to be the way of the future, but I think there's more in this world than that...what about the stuff we live in? Air...compressed air. check out this fella's compressed air engine, www.engineair.com.au ... Right this engine may not work, but the idea is there...worth a think about anyway... Just my 2cents worth...
gofastclint Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Indy carts are using 98% ethanol 2% petroleum. the 2% gives the fuel colour when it burns and stops people from drinking it. As for the icing, EFI with a back up computer. Type "Tracy Crook" into google search and have a look at his work with EFI on a Mazda rotary and an RV-4.

Do you mean methanol? Different brew has some same qualities but more extreme than ethanol.
