Captain Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 To Ian and GrandePierre & SlartiHotPlate I notice that the AAAA are holding their Fly-In and Airshow at Echuca on April 24th - 26th this year. That fits in well with the other Events that are planned this year (Avalon, Narromine and Wide Bay) so what do you think if this Forum Membership were to attach themselves to that AAAA Echuca event and see if we can negotiate a group parking and socialising area. If that can be done it would allow us to have a group get-together without someone needing to organise it from scratch ...... and all we would need is a Chewca based BBQ, a couple of B-Doubles of Geoff's plonk and 3 tonnes of components for snag sangas. What do you think? Regards Geoff
BigPete Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 It's a great idea Captain, one that I have been thinking about also. ;) The biggest problem will be if underwing camping will be allowed at the airport. If not we will have to source off field accomodation/camping areas. Leave it with me and I'll start the ball rolling. If you would like to attend - can you post your intentions here - please. regards :big_grin:
Captain Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Pete I would definitely go, and allowing underwing camping would certainly be good. If this gains any momentum, let me know if I can help with any organising stuff. Ian/Ross If you agree with this, can I suggest that you move my post #40 and all subsequent to a new thread and create a poll so that numbers and comments can be accumulated. Regards Le Clappee
slartibartfast Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Great Idea Excellent idea guys. Don't forget that rather than subject any more pax to vertical landings, I have converted my spare seat to a BBQ. So that's covered. I'll plan to be there. Thanks for running with it MuchMalignedPete. How many sleeps to go?
Captain Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 98 sleeps And I would fly with you Ross ... I think ... after all, you would pay a fortune at an Adventure Park for a fully insured thrill ride like that. PS That is the Anzac Day weekend ........ and I guess that the only negative for some Forum Members might be that it is just 2 weeks after Natfly, however as this was meant to be a southern region get-together I think it would still work because Echuca is a good central location to that area, but would be interested to hear what others think. Regards The heart of Le Clap would be in his mouth
brilin_air Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I believe we could possible attend. It's only an hour away for us, and Echuca is such a nice flight. We can see if the Ballarat Crew want to make a day/weekend of it. Count us in at this stage. -Linda
Matt Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Hi everyone...as the Secretary of the AAAA I can assure you everyone is welcome...regardless of why you fly or what category aircraft you fly. PS> Ian / BigPete etc. If there is to be a Rec Flying "fly-in" at this weekend, we (the AAAA) committee would appreciate being aware and involved as it is a AAAA organised and managed event, hosted by the Echuca Aero Club. Look forward to seeing you / meeting you there...all potential AAAA members ;)
Captain Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Matt What is AAAA policy for camping under the wing at that event? Regards Geoff
Matt Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Hi Geoff, We more than welcome it and no doubt some of our members will be doing just that. All I think we'd be asking for is visibility and awareness of numbers etc. as this would impact on planning for facilities such as toilets etc. Also, as there will be an official "airshow" on the Sunday, there would be a limitation on access to the field during the display period. As mentioned, if there is a movement to coordinate a Recreational Flying fly-in for this weekend, I would expect the AAAA committee and Echuca Aero Club would be keen to know and help ensure all attendees are catered for in all respects.
Captain Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Thanks Matt I'd be surprised if we all can't make this a mutually beneficial event and attendance for both the AAAA and for those forum members who choose to attend ..... and with BigPete on the job down at Echuca, it should also be relatively easy to coordinate for both groups. The AAAA Airshow is one of the reasons that I would go, so I'm sure that most of us would be happy to sit on the ground, watch that & keep out of the AAAA's way during that time. In the meantime, if you are speaking with your committee why don't you assume that Pete will work up a plan in cooperation and if you can keep in mind to give us an area where we can all park together it would be great. What do you think Peter? Best regards Geoff
BigPete Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 THE EAC (Echuca Aero Club) put on a fantastic airshow every two years. Having the AAAA aircraft arrive on Friday and Saturday is a fantastic oppurtunity for all you camera happy (and just plane crazy) people to get your fill. There's a hell of a lot of effort (and money) goes into this to make it run smooth. Website is up and running with some, but not all content yet. Link: www.echucaairshow.com.au To get the most I would suggest you fly in on Fri/Sat and plan to fly home on the Monday (holiday for ANZAC day) The RSL runs a great service and breakfast early Saturday for those wishing to attend an ANZAC service. (if we are able to camp under the wing - I'll organize a bus pickup if required) I will of course, inform both the AAAA and EAC of our (RAA) requirements and intentions as they develop. and , yes Geoff I will get us our own RAA area. regards :big_grin:
Captain Posted January 18, 2009 Author Posted January 18, 2009 Great stuff Peter Ian/Ross ... we need to change the dates on the title of this thread ... when you can please.
tvaner Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 It might pay to confirm that the Monday is a gazetted public holiday in Victoria. We have had times where this is not the case.
Matt Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Good point Keith. ANZAC day is obviously on the Saturday and the gazetted Public Holiday is also on the Saturday this year, so for this year it's not a long weekend...well, not one the govt. is giving you anyway. Think I might be feeling ill on that Friday ;)
Matt Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Oh, and just having a read of the official airshow website T's&C's, camping will not be permitted: 7 Public camping of any kind including motor homes is not permitted on the airfield or in any of the designated vehicle parking areas or in the private aircraft parking area. All vehicles must vacate the parking areas at the conclusion of each day's performance. ...so, ignore my post above about camping!
Geoff Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Hay Pete I hope you have back lawn mowed:crying: think I bring the tent,:yuk: I will be there :thumb_up:
BigPete Posted January 18, 2009 Posted January 18, 2009 Fear not, fellow aviators  - I have a cunning plan :) (for accomodation that is). Somehow, somewhere, I will find a place for us. regards :big_grin:
Captain Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Fear not, fellow aviators  - I have a cunning plan :) (for accomodation that is). Somehow, somewhere, I will find a place for us. :thumb_up:regards:big_grin::big_grin: As a matter of interest, from whence does the prohibition on camping come? And as a technicality re the excerpt from the T's & C's as posted by Matt, if you fly in and camp with your aircraft, which surely gives you a legitimate air-side interest (or even a security interest to protect your ship) on an airport at an event such as this, can that really be described as "public" camping? And if it can be allowed on Bundaberg Airport with RPT's etc during the Wide Bay Airshow, why not at good old Chewca for an AAAA function? But if not, so be it, and it's all around to Pete's joint then.
Captain Posted February 5, 2009 Author Posted February 5, 2009 Looking at the following photo from the AAAA 2007 Fly-In at Echuca, can anyone state the reasons why fly-in participants can't camp under the wing?
skydog Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Looks like a "must do" The weekend is sounding like a real must do and the best biggest aviation meet for Victoria, God knows we have a dearth of fly ins etc in Vic. I will be there for sure.
Captain Posted February 8, 2009 Author Posted February 8, 2009 Fear not, fellow aviators  - I have a cunning plan :) (for accomodation that is). Somehow, somewhere, I will find a place for us. G'day Peter. What's the latest with your C.P.? Regards Geoff
BigPete Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I hope to have it sorted after next weekend  (one way or the other ) regards :big_grin:
Matt Posted February 9, 2009 Posted February 9, 2009 We (AAAA) have got a committee meeting tonight and I'll raise the topic of "underwing camping" with the committee as I suspect there'll be possible AAAA members wishing to do the same if possible. Will let you know of the outcome.
