gofastclint Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Ecoflyer Saw this in a magazine and thought it looked great. I can imagine many retired couples flying around the country in this cool plane.
BLA82 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Bugger the retirees I would be happy to fly one of these around myself, put a fold down motorbike in the back Happy Days

BLA82 Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 always pays to be nice to the wise though. Too True:thumb_up: But I always tell my Dad to be nice as I will be the one who chooses his nursing home:laugh:
Guest ozzie Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Looks like a Jab that's about to lay a few eggs! Lotta 'wetted' area there.
gofastclint Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 Looks like a Jab that's about to lay a few eggs! Lotta 'wetted' area there. They have a direct link to the Jabiru website so i think there is some joint work happening.
gofastclint Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 wow ozzie, 1 more post and you crack the ton!

Well Tomo, at only 17 you are in the perfect position to become an instructor and make a carrier out of flying. I may only be 25 but the best advice i could give is skip the whole party thing when you turn 18 and earn your stripes in the air.
wanabigaplane Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Big piston From the ad - "The Ecoflyer is a composite airplane with a single piston engine." Must be a pretty big piston ! Saw it at Oshkosh (the 'plane, not the piston). It was like a Kombi inside. I would double check those performance figures if I was buying one. Jack.

Guest basscheffers Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Has this thing actually flown? The performance figures seem rather ... optimistic.
Tomo Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Has this thing actually flown? The performance figures seem rather ... optimistic. Yeah that's what I thought...It's got the room, but probably can't carry much weight, hence the bean bag idea...;)
gofastclint Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 It looks like a fat white pointer shark, and they have no trouble moving fast through the water.
Guest Maj Millard Posted January 20, 2009 Posted January 20, 2009 I think it's been having too much sex !...............whatever that is.... and Oh..I might have to order me up one of those 'Hubb Metters"
Mick Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Yes these have flown. There were 2 of them at Oshkosh 08, one with a rotax and one with a jab. I saw the pair of them take off and depart at the end of the show. I have my doubts about it carrying too much gear as it is LSA and as such has a MTOW of 600kg. On close inspection it also gave the impression of being very fragile, I have a photo somewhere of my wife sitting in the back and you can see sunshine through the composite fuselage!!!!

That's interesting Mick, because the aircraft is actually manufactured from welded 4130 steel tubing covered with two layers of linen cloth, one of which is on the inside and one on the outside with insulation inbetween. Not surprised that you saw daylight
motzartmerv Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Seen a few jabs where ya can see daylight through the back..;)...

It is the "Private Explorer" aircraft by the same company that is a steel tube fuse. Have a look at the pic's attached & tell me if you think this is a steel tube structure??? I only have one word to describe this thing - "Flimsey" Also note the stand under the tail to stop it tipping back when people sit in the back!!!!
gofastclint Posted January 21, 2009 Author Posted January 21, 2009 Throw a 5100 Jab in the front and move the rear wheels farther back. That should sort it out.
Guest brentc Posted January 21, 2009 Posted January 21, 2009 Ok, I stand corrected. Their website could do with some work. It's an interesting machine and a little scarry to be honest.

Guest keeffe Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Also in looking at the photo the PIC flies the aircraft backwards which I am sure is a skill of its own right. Mike PS I had to add a shot of Australia's finest Drifter.

Give it its own post with a heap of pics to go with it, like when you built it and all that stuff. Like your work
Guest basscheffers Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 Looking up how this thing was going, I sadly came across this: Ecoflyer LSA Crashes, Company Owner Killed Very sad. The website seems defunct now, so I can only assume the whole company has ceased to exist.
