gofastclint Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 I was just curious as to why there isn't more people with tuned length expansion chambers on their two stroke aircraft engines. more power and better economy, seems like a win/win to me.
gofastclint Posted January 19, 2009 Author Posted January 19, 2009 two stroke. it was ment to be a gif. oh well
facthunter Posted January 19, 2009 Posted January 19, 2009 Tuned exhausts. Rotax's exhausts already are. Despite the outward appearance the 582 exhaust system is quite exotic. Since a lot of engines are used in pusher installations they have to be compact, and it is important that nothing falls off them (as it goes thru the prop and breaks blades off) Nev..
Guest Maj Millard Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Both the Rotax and Hirth mufflers are very similiar in size and appearance. That is because they were both designed and perfected by a company in California called Fischer Pipes. Their speciality is tuned pipes for two strokes, and they are very well known in the MX and racing motor bike scene. Our engine manufacturers were smart enough to use them, probabily via Kodiak Research in Canada who were the one's who took Rotax snowmobile engines, and turned them into aeroplane engines.......................
