seb7701 Posted February 5, 2009 Posted February 5, 2009 Yep, Bob HOOVER is definately one of the most amazing avaiators. His book is a great read is you want the full story.
Guest palexxxx Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Back in the mid 90's the FAA took Bob Hoovers licence away from him because he was past it (or so they thought). The organisers of Avalon brought him out to Australia and got him an Aussie GA licence within a day or two and then he performed at the 1995 Avalon Airshow. I was lucky enough to have been there. It was the same year that the Sukhoi 27 was there performing the Cobra manouvre. That was a great Airshow that year. As a result of Bob Hoover getting his Australian GA licence, it forced the FAA to reconsider their move of taking his American licence away and they ended up having to reinstate it.
Guest Maj Millard Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Got to see Bob perform 2 or 3 times a year while we were living in the States. The man is just smooth as silk. And by the way, it was Bob's ride to break the sound barrier in the Bell X-1, in 1947. Chuck Yeager got it because Bob was too tall for the X-1s' cockpit. He flew chase in an F104 I think it was, or maybe a T33 Shooting Star. Not that Chuck wasn't as capable of course.............................
