Guest Rocko Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Heya all Not sure if everyone from SE Qld has heard, but the most brilliant mayor of the Gold Coast, Mr Ron Clark, has arranged for the GCCC to pruchase Tipplers/South Stradbroke Island Resort, and will begin demolishing it next month. The bungalows, he now plans to turn into shelter for the homeless. This is the same idiot who decided the Gold Coast should have unlimited water use weekends, during our SE Qld Level 7 water restrictions. While I realise that we're aviators, I'm sure there are also many people here who are also boaties. If you've ever enjoyed dropping into Tipplers for a quiet drink, then you need to consider whether demolishing the place is in the benefit of everyone in SE Qld. After all, Clark can't even seem to get much support for the idea from people on the coast, let alone elsewhere. Yet another council making mindless plans to the detriment of everyone. Besides, the number of jobs that will be lost by tour operators, etc, utilising the resort, not to mention resort staff, is going to be staggering. It'll make Virgin's 400 job cuts look a pittance by comparison. So, if you think this is a shocker of an idea, email the GC City council and register your opinion. Gold Coast City Council Otherwise, yet another small piece of SE Qld history will vanish forever. Scotty
skybum Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Maybe, the neighbours think Tipplers is too much competition.
Guest Rocko Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Maybe, the neighbours think Tipplers is too much competition. Given the only neighbours are at Couran Cove resort, at $400+ per night, it wouldn't surprise me
BLA82 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Thats sux!!!!!. Many of weekend nights spent at tipplers and in later life many of drunken nights moored outside it. It will be a sad day when it closes.
