Admin Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Over 3,500,000 Hits in February - and that is in just 4 weeks Thankyou to everyone for making this site your preferred place to come together and exchange information in the sport that we all love - flying recreational aircraft. It is so important, I believe, to have all this information in one single repository - one single place that you can go to find out important information about safety, maintenance and flying skills and discuss this information with like minded colleagues. You never know when you discuss something here that others may come along and learn something that will help them to fly safer or maintain their aircraft better. We all have limited time to spend going around from site to site so by you all posting here, and getting others to as well, will support all recreational pilots in our great industry. Again thankyou for making Recreational Flying (.com.au) the number 1 and preferred recreational aviation site in Australia with over 3.5 MILLION HITS (that's not thousands, that's MILLIONS!!!!!) Please, if there is anything that you would like to see on this site for you then just let Ross (Slartibartfast) or me know - it is that simple. Let's get to 4 million
Guest JRMobile Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Congratulations on the mile stone  Is that 3.5 Mega :hittinghead:
Captain Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Congratulations Ian. You and your co-workers on the site deserve this acceptance and success. PS This also shows what the Never Ending Story has done to boost circulation.;):big_grin:
Admin Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Cap't, I am very seriously thinking of publishing the NES starting with vol1 - do you think people would want one if we called it: "The Recreational Flying Ops Manual"
Guest Brett Campany Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Well done Ian, that's great stuff mate, it's the best place to get all of the information you need on recreational flying!
pudestcon Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Whilst the numbers are astounding I'm not surprised because of the quality and content here. Well done guys. Pud
Tomo Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Whilst the numbers are astounding I'm not surprised because of the quality and content here. Well done guys. I agree with Pud....
planedriver Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Not surprised at all at this fantastic result.:thumb_up::thumb_up::thumb_up: As many ads say "check the rest, then come to the best" Bye the way thank you for all the enjoyment you've given me too. Yeeeeeha! well done guys for all your hard work. Kind regards Planey
Captain Posted March 8, 2009 Posted March 8, 2009 Cap't, I am very seriously thinking of publishing the NES starting with vol1 - do you think people would want one if we called it:"The Recreational Flying Ops Manual" Ian To evaluate this, can you extract any figures on how many visits to the NES thread are just the 6 or 10 regulars and how many non contributors are regular visitors who enjoy the NES story nonsense. And will you be at the AAAA Echuca knees-up where all the NES'ers are going to get together for a BBQ & to turn their clocks forward? Regards Geoff
tvaner Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 Forget the manual Captain. When's Ben going buy the rights & do the movie.
Admin Posted March 9, 2009 Author Posted March 9, 2009 New advert for the RAAus Mag - any suggestions on how to improve it  - I am useless at this sorta stuff!
planedriver Posted March 9, 2009 Posted March 9, 2009 New advert for the RAAus Mag - any suggestions on how to improve it  - I am useless at this sorta stuff!Bravo Sierra Admin:big_grin:, you do a great job. Kind regards Planey
Admin Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 The RAAus mag people have recut our long running advert for us into a horizontal layout starting with the April edition of the mag - let's hope that more and more RAAus members get to hear about this site and pop in for some online fun with other like minded recreational aviators. The new advert: Although if you look at our site registration figures we are getting some very good numbers of new registrations every single day: And, we have passed the 4.3 MILLION hits in a single month mark (nearly 4.8 million if you include the other traffic): The thing is these figures are truthful, no lies here as they have been collected by real data collecting software. These figures have only been achieved because of you and you making this site what you have wanted it to be by your input. Keep the input coming everyone and those sitting on the fence, why not at least say HI as everyone here will back Thanks all and hope to see a great many lot of you at Natfly...enjoy your flying and please always keep it safe!
hihosland Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 With 4.5 million hits there is plenty of evidence that you don't need to do anything to the advert at this stage. Keep the refresh idea up your sleeve for when there is evidence of a plateauing out of the growth. dems my thoughts davidh
Captain Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Not to mention a membership of 3580. How many have competing sites got? PS ... How many HOT-X buns will be consumed in the tent at Narromine? Lets run a sweep with the proceeds to the scholorship fund. I'll eat 50 in a good cause (& pay for 'em too). Now
turboplanner Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 I'm with Hi Ho - when do you get the Gulfstream. 3.5 to 4 million hits per month must be just about better than Madonna gets. I don't think you would be over commercialising if you replaced the "Pilots supplies", currently buried with a larger (but still single link "SHOP", then let that link open up to a wonderland of supplies, beginning with under $30.00 items which kids or the impoverished who have to pay for lessons, or rent aircraft can buy on a REPEAT basis - eg DVD's on all sorts of flying aspects. Every time I go to an ABC shop I seem to come home with a video on flying, which I've never seen anywhere else. I couldn't see anyone arguing against you lifting your clearprop profile slightly. However, congratulations on going from strength to strength.
Admin Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 funny you should mention that mate - I am actually in the middle of updating the shop to a new look and extra features plus even breaking further away from this site by not even using the Rec Flying logo. You will also see that the new advert for the mag only mentions the shop on the side. Everyone knows that I am dead against commercialising anything to do with this site which is to help other recreational pilots so everything is free NO ADVERTISING - aircraft manufacturers/agents etc now have their own area where they can promote their aircraft and even answer questions etc by using the comment section in their area. We don't charge advertising fees for that because it is what you guys want - NOW just get on to your aircraft person to get them to set up their own spot in the Aircraft Section for themselves and start mingling. This also goes for your club or school - there is a section for that as well - it's all up to you guys now to get those sections going plus the site home page also randomly displays an entry from the aircraft section and the club or school as well - what better free advertising could you get  So, whilst the proceeds from the shop pay for this site I am hoping that the First Class Membership will end up paying for all the site costs and the shop will end up paying me to stay at home and keep the site development going - that's why I am tring to move the shop a bit further away from the site so hopefully it can stand on its own two feet - who knows in a year or two I might just give it to the RAAus as their own site if they want it and I just run it for them. Here is what the new shop looks like - see no Rec Flying logo being used for Clear Prop
Admin Posted March 30, 2009 Author Posted March 30, 2009 Not to mention a membership of 3580.How many have competing sites got? Cap't, the number of members is easy to manipulate so I don't go on just other site membership numbers. For example I know one site that displays: Visits: 4,305,847 Members: 22,221 yet they are lucky to get 1 post a week although they use to be a lot busier. Another site boasts around 1,060 yet on a top day only gets 50 to 60 users. I keep deleting old members like today I deleted about 30 - if I didn't keep cleaning out the system we would have had over 5,000 members by now but I prefer to keep it clean and more accurate. What I look at is the number of people who have logged in during a single 24hr period, not just once but constantly on most days and we are around the 400+ per day. You also apply that to the number of new threads started, % of total membership, number of new posts, % of total posts and you get a better picture that this site is extremely successful in delivering to its users what they want. And if it doesn't deliver what you want then: LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU WANT If you look at a site that has say only 50 to 60 daily users from a membership of say 1,060 you have a 5.7% hit where ours is 11%. These numbers can easily be faked though but not when you combine all the different figures as a person would be extremely busy trying to fake them all and then they are only just fooling themselves. It is people like you and the NES crew that make this site what it is, there is hardly any moderation needed any more , the rif raf have gone and the great aviators of today are left and let's not forget the site crew of: slartibartfast BLA82 Brett Campany pelorus32 Seal tvaner and The Brains Trust OH, by the way, we need some more volunteers if anyone is up to it - Kaz, our great Events Manager has needed to spend more time doing things with the Warbirds so we need an Events Manager who enter the emailed aviation events into the calendar. We also need a Manager for the Photo Gallery, Airfields, Games Arcade, Who's Who and Downloads - any volunteers??????????????????????????????????????????????
