The Avocet had a 6 cylinder Jabiru engine set up as a pusher with Rotec water cooled heads and it worked fine.

 

For less demanding applications, like my SK, , the simple system works ok as long as you take care. By this I mean watching the CHT's and climbing in steps if necessary.

 

I have thought about cowl flaps and an oil-cooler inlet flap and agree that they would be good but its a lot of work and complication for things the plane is ok without.

 

By ok I mean 17 years (700 hours ) of reliable running, with the exception of the time I overheated it on the ground.
