G'day Ultralights,

A guy on our field has just purchased one to put on line. It is just beautiful with excellent workmanship. I haven't flown it yet but I have quite a few hours on Supercubs and Husky's and sitting in this thing feels the same in every respect. If anyone wants the 'real taildragger' feel, these are the ticket.

Others will surely have better photos than mine, but here are a few off my phone from yesterday. Sorry they are a bit rugged.

PS/Edit .... interesting how a few of the smaller uav's use a lot of Rec aircraft practices & shapes.

That Cubs not too much different to the good ol Lightwing, in fact I though it was one when I looked at the engine installation.......I'm a great fan of the cub also, after scoring a ride once in a real J3 cub...............024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

i was thinking those Cannons, the Hawk and hornet all look very familiar, i work for BAE during the week! so where can i get hold of some old Rotax's off the UAV's?? trade you for a AMRAM and RADSIM bomb!

I agree Andy.

I sms'd to home from the Airshow with Hawker's bsb & account number and requested that a deposit be ET'd to them for my next aircraft, but she who controls the ET thingy has not reacted positively, so maybe in 2 year's time I will be healed enough to try again.

Even gave her a choice of internal and external colours.

A bloke just can't win.

Best regards Geoff

PS ..... I just LOVE gattling guns. Next time around I think that I want to be one.

rain affected airshow

Shame about the weather today (Saturday) We dont want anything in aviation to be a failure during these tough times. Need more people to get excited and learn to fly.

I read an article a few years ago about the rotaxs being used in these UAVs. at one hundred hours they are replaced not serviced just replaced and in agreement with rotax so the second hand market is not flooded with low time second hand engines they are smashed and then buried at a secure location. what a waste hey.

Today wasn't much better (sunday). The rain stayed away for most of the day but the wind spoiled the party for some of the flying display.

What did fly was great, but I felt a little disappointed, especially since this is the first time that I've gone to the event.

The static displays were good, the RA group was well represented with most of the major players there. And the Jabiru's !!! They were everywhere, all sorts of them. They have definately got a huge market share.

My favourite of the show was the Evektor Sportstar. I have never seen one up close before but what a wonderful looking plane. Looks very roomy inside, compared to others, a very neat and tidy plane.

Well, I got an 11th hour window of opportunity to attend Avalon this year and boarded a flight to Melbourne on Friday to get there in time for the afternoon airshow and "weather abridged" night show. With the chill in the air bought an airshow merchandise jacket only to be dismayed in the dissappointment of finding out on Saturday in the carpark it wasn't waterproof...after getting drenched decided to dry off and sightsee and go back Sunday (with a waterproof jacket) really felt for the guys that lost or had their pride and joys damaged saturday night and I hope the organisers can also lend a helping hand (I doubt it though) Stayed as long as possible on sunday considering the lack of content in and out of the tents and lack of performers...guess that had something to do with Pip and Tom flying at higher "climes" I realised then what an important influence they had on the airshow circuit in OZ. Purely from a spectator standpoint (and thank God for the RAAF and small contiguent of performers) I felt the airshow was poorly organised, traffic control absolute crap and airshow itself overpriced by about twice its true value...blame the weather perhaps but the organisers have been doing this since 1992 and experience wet weather before this one...so you would think they could have done it better...

What I was impressed with though was the Zlin "Savage Cub" which was displayed by the Victorian agent and impressed enough to look into it more closely...so it wasn't a complete waste of time (and money)031_loopy.gif.e6c12871a67563904dadc7a0d20945bf.gif

Almost everyone left to check on aircraft, so those who were left had to drink the beer before the opened cans were thrown (chugalug)....... then we had an almost empty room to tell stories to. I think mine included alost running into a mountain while fiddling with the radio to find some Slim Dusty.... and then landing on the beach with a busted cooler..... and saying "I'm beached as, bro" in Kiwi accent......

Show was not so good

I agree it was a little disappointing but always something nice to see at an airshow.

B1b

Simonflyer,

My rib cage is also still rattling from the B1B. That aircraft is a hugh crowd pleaser.

It gives me goose bumps just to here it take off. I just love it!!!

It was very dissapointing about the weather over the weekend, especially after travelling from QLD to see the airshow, but we still enjoyed it.

It was a great experience for me to fly into such an airshow.
