rgmwa Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 "...This one looks like a metal toy, but it is real....." Hint: There was also a fixed undercarriage version and a float version. I'm guessing here - wouldn't be the latest Disney Planes creation would it? rgmwa
pmccarthy Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 "...This one looks like a metal toy, but it is real....." Hint: There was also a fixed undercarriage version and a float version. General Aviation GA-43
red750 Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Right pmccarthy. Here's the float version: and the fixed cart version: It was also known as the Pilgrim 150, Fairchild 150, and Clark GA-43. Despite this, only 5 were ever built.
planedriver Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Looks to me like an old Fairchild 24 which not all had radial engines?
red750 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 OK. It's been 24 hours. The aircraft is a Hollingstad/Wideroe C-5 Polar. Built in Norway, the design is based on a Stinson Reliant.
planedriver Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Thanks for putting me out of my misery Peter. It appears to be based on the 1934 straight wing Reliant and looks slightly longer in the nose section.
pmccarthy Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Tonight's example:Is it a pregnant Bristol fighter?
pmccarthy Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 This one I don't know myself. It is an old Brownie Kodak photo and on the back it says "This is a close up of one taking off". Nearby photos were of Malta. I guess Fleet Air Arm but what is the aircraft? My guess a Hawker Nimrod, but other suggestions welcome.
pmccarthy Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 A Dart is possible but the Ripon only has one set of interplane struts.
bexrbetter Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 https://www.google.com.hk/search?q=Blackburn Dart&newwindow=1&safe=strict&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=UHJ0U96-OsaNuAT4hILQCw&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=854&bih=622 Blackburn Dart for sure after looking at the pictures. Frayed knot. Answer posted at 10.55 tonight. You piece of string you.
red750 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Time's up. The plane is a Westland Limousine. Including prototype, eight were built. Interesting story on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Westland_Limousine
red750 Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 Three-view sketch. Note unusual placement of pilots seat in raised port rear passengers position.
Deskpilot Posted May 16, 2014 Posted May 16, 2014 No matter how I look at this image, I can't see a Westland Limo in it. There are too many differences, the radiator/cowling being the most obvious.
