Guest Sk8 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Hi all, I joined to see what the AUS builders are doing. I know you are at the bleeding edge of most motorsports and very ingenius so I thought I'd get a different perspective. I've got well over 1200 hours in a Falcon 4 sim with most online flying A to A or A to G and lots of dogfighting. I'm more into single engine props now and am trying to find some desperate soul willing to sell on the cheap his Sonerai II L or II LS build for me to finish. I will be taking my license instruction this summer..That's June, July and August for us Yanks. I'll be most likely starting with a VW engine in the kit but am interested in the Jabiru 2200 and 3300 once I have some experience in the seat. I'm residing in Redondo Beach California so there are lots of airports and of course restricted airspace here.
Guest Brett Campany Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Hey guys, looks like we might have somewhere to stay if we go to Cali!! Good to have you on board mate, I've been talking to a bloke in the US who's the dealer for CZAW Sportcruisers. It'll be good to get your perspective on various things in the LSA / ultralight category and also hear of your experiences.
Guest Sk8 Posted March 23, 2009 Posted March 23, 2009 Thanks for the welcome. I don't know if you would like it where I live:laugh: 10 minute bicycle ride to Redondo Beach King Harbor, 5 minutes North is Hermosa Beach, ride further North along "The Strand" and you can watch the jets land at LAX. A little further up and you are in Venice Beach where the world famous Harry Parry and all the skateboarders hang out. Further up and it's Santa Monica Pier and then Malibu. Of course there's Torrance airport (Zamperini), Compton Woodley Airport and Hawthorne airport all a stones throw from me. Long Beach airport is 20 minutes away and Knotts Berry Farm and Universal Studios are about 25 minutes by car and Disneyland is about 45 minutes away. Hollywood is 20 minutes away as is downtown Los Angeles. Not much to do here really! EAA chapter 7 is at Long Beach and EAA 96 is at Torrance and Compton with a hanger full of projects to peruse at the Compton airport. I BBQ at least 2 times a week even in winter...(what winter..lol) So I'll toss a shrimp on the barby for you. I am a native to the South Bay here in Cali so I know where to find the crazy people and where to stay the heck out of at night. G' Day

Guest Sk8 Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 Let me tell you all a story of a friend that came for a visit with me here in LA. He came from Ottawa Canada so he wasn't a small town guy but he was Canadian and they tend to be a tad on the innocent side. We decided to go to Hollywood and get me fitted in some black leather pants so I could look good when my band was playing. I already had the leather motorcycle jacket thing going and I was the bass player. While I was trying on some pants, my friend ventured out onto Sunset Blvd to have a look see around. After about 5 minutes, my friend comes running into the leather shop in a panic and breathing hard. He had obviously been running scared and was out of breath. I asked him what was wrong and he blurted out....."Help me, there is a 300 pound black transvestite hooker with AIDS trying to pickup on me"... I nearly lost it as I was laughing so hard. That was in the middle of the day in the summer. At night it gets a lot more fun!;)
turboplanner Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 yes SK, you're lucky living close to all that activity but you do have to eat pancakes for breakfast though
Tomo Posted March 27, 2009 Posted March 27, 2009 And G'day Sk8... You sound like an American even without the accent:laugh: Anyway on the serious side, I'm sure you'll have fun around here, and see how seriously funny us Aussie can get sometimes... especially if you read the NES!! I'm a country fella, so we gotta protect the city guys from all the snakes, and kangaroos....................................quite frightening to some of em'... Have Fun....
