Captain Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Good on you Ross. Thanks very much for those. As you can see from the colour of the country, we had 3.7 mm here during October when the average is 61 mm .... and this year we have so far had half our annual average. It will look better next year. Captain
slartibartfast Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 No worries. Yeah - it's the same here in Canberra. The flies in Wagga seem to be enjoying the weather though. The stickiest little buggers I've seen for ages. The type that totally ignore the aussie salute.
hiperlight Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 The aerial photo of Wagga Airport stirred up someinterestingmemories for me. I was an Air Traffic Controller in Wagga Control Tower (the original tower attached to a hangar, not the one in the photo.) That was 45 years ago, in 1961/62. During the time I was there Ansett's VH-TVC ( 700 series Vickers Viscount) crashed into Botany Bay, in Sydney, during a storm. That was in late November or December 1961. Theresulting investigation recommended, inter alia, the installation of sophisticated radar at major airports in Australia. The rest is history. Up until then we used a 'wartime' Cossor raw radar which was useless ininclement weatherbecause of 'rain clutter' returns. Bruce
Guest Fred Bear Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Actually both of the Spitfires were fitted with the Holden / Isuzu engine. It's the 3.5 litre (200 HP) all alloy V6 from the Holden Rodeo from nearly 2 years ago. Owner of the Blue / green one is George and son John Huse from Melbourne. George bought around 15 of these and designed and built his own dual ignition system to make them legal for the UK market where single ignition is illegal and sold them and made lots of money...
slartibartfast Posted November 2, 2006 Author Posted November 2, 2006 Thanks for that Clem. I'm no aviation expert, and to me the blue/green one sounded more like a Spitfire should. I had been told about the Isuzu in the grey one and assumed from the sound that the other was more original. Whoever was talking about the Isuzu said Mr Honda himself had told him that it was really a Honda engine.
