After reading many posts and ongoing problems with heat management, I have wondered has anybody used HPC or that type of coating (for exhaust systems). This is a ceramic type of coating, That gets used lots on race cars, and I have seen the benefit, it pretty amazing stuff......

Here is a link on it in avaition.

High Performance Coatings - Aviation - Engine Coatings, Piston Coatings, Polished Aluminum, Exhaust Tips, Exhaust Systems, Chrome Plating, Emissivity, Exhaust Headers, Marine Coatings, Ceramic Coatings, Header Coatings, Exhaust Coatings

If any one has used it i would be interested to here results. As it is used internally and externally for the entire length of the exhaust system (header-exhaust output.) And apparently doesnt have the problems of exhaust rap..

Also as they charge by length it would be SO much cheaper than doing a car, or intercooler system (where I have seen it used)

I used it on my J230, on a standard J exhaust, when I built it about 2 years ago, but not on the headers.

Was done to try to reduce temps in the engine bay, and while I don't have definitive comparisons, I am happy with the result as my engine temps are all low.

I was concerned that ceramic coating of the muffler exhaust, around which the Carb heat baffle and cabin heat muff are attached, may have reduced the carb heat capability, but that is fine.

You can see it in the thread J230 @ YSWG and the cost was pretty good, I thought. (It was a couple of years ago, but from memory I posted some photos of the finished job and the cost, so maybe search that Thread for "Ceramic Coating" or similar)

Hope this is of interest. Regards Geoff

Wow, cool, I wonder what would have happened if you had done the headers as well??

We did it to a mates race car, headers, turbo, full exhaust and allthe intercoller pipes.

The temp drop was like 10 degrees down (by memory) on water and oil on very hot days on the track.

Makes me wonder If done to a JAB what the effects would be in high 30's ambient temps.

I used it on my drifter a few years ago when I first got it. Mainly for corrosion protection. The exhaust was already heavily corroded. I sold that plane but that same exhaust is still going strong today.
