stewart Posted April 21, 2009 Posted April 21, 2009 Hi All Good to see another Rec. flying site. I am 59 years old and have been flying since I was 16 when I started training on Chipmunks. Started with a PPL then moved to a CPL then got involved with ultralights in the early 1990's. Although my wife and I still have a RA-Aus flying school we have mostly retired from that to get back to some really grass roots flying. We have owned a Chinook and Thruster, built a Savannah in the past and are currently restoring a couple of gyrocopters. We have just published a Flight Training Manual for Rec. flying and now flying for fun. Favourate Rec. aircraft are Drifters and Thrusters. Regards Stewart
farri Posted April 23, 2009 Posted April 23, 2009 G`Day Stewart and ,Looks like you`ve got plenty of experience and it`s great to see there are still some grass roots enthusiasts out there. I`m a real grass roots flier, started back in the mid eighties by building a Chinook WT2, from scratch,I copied it from a mates Chinook, the only UL/AC in this part of the country at the time. Back then a few of us got together and formed "The Far North Queensland Ultralight Association",I eventually got my ratings and instructed for the association for a couple of years then ran my own school, "The Far North Queensland Ultralight Flying School",from my property, for a furthur 10 years until I retired from instructing, several years ago. I used an Austflight built WB 582 Drifter for instruction but over the years I`ve flown numerous different types from the Wheeler Scout through to the Zenith 701 and I believe that the Drifter is still an excellent AC to learn to fly in. I still own the Drifter and continue to fly it regularly and love doing so. Cheers, Frank.
