Does anyone know anything about the Boorabee Aircraft...looks like a stumpy Drifter with struts??? There seems to be quite a few of them around in SE Queensland.

A bit faster than a drifter and also enclosed cockpit. Usual engine is 2.2 Jab which pushes it along at about 80kt. I have never flown one but we have one at Rodds Bay and it seems to be more stable than a drifter, less affected by gusting wind. They are quite manouverable and also appear to be forgiving. Can easily turn inside a Corby Starlet and disappear downwards when chased. I have heard of one that damaged it's tail boom, which was put down to landing in a willy willy. The boom was strengthened with a short length of extra tube inside the original on the repair and also the one at Rodds Bay

I'm sure that the last aircraft to land as the stormfront was approaching Natfly was in fact a Boorabee in a major gusting crosswind.I was a bit busy hanging onto the upwind wing of my tied down Thruster but saw most of the approach and landing.I could hear calls of "this bloke's dead"and"I can't watch this"but he actually got away with it.He needed wing walkers to taxi back to the parking area.He did a brilliant job to land safely but if it was me in those conditions I would have landed next to the windsock on the grass directly into wind.
