Guest brentc Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 There's an old saying that if there's any more than 3 lines, stay on the ground. Good idean in this case. The hail 'pellets' sound interesting!
Guest Maj Millard Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Somebody mentioned the other day that there is a new program out that will actually turn all that bullshxx into white mans' language and give it to you online inflight. Anyone know what it is ??
Guest Decca Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Wx fcst Maj they aren't really that difficult - Once - you understand the abbreviations and acronyms, not to mention the format invented for the date/timeline, cloud types & intensity, etc. Having said that, there is a 56 reply thread; Poll: SIGMETS - CAN THEY BE MORE CRYPTIC? in which there seems to be some progress being made towards plain language forecasts. As you point out, this thread started with the post by Captain, calls for a need for exactly what you are after for rec pilots (or many pilots for that matter) who like to keep things simple & less likely for the risk of misinterpretation. Regards, Decca.
poteroo Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 When you see the letter G in the wind speed grouping - it's a yellow flag. Take a deep breath - and re-read it. 290/30G45 is enough to keep most RAA aircraft in the hangar.
Captain Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Not to mention the SIGMET for Moderate to Severe low level turbulance below 7000 ft. A day not to fly anything related to this Forum, me thinks (@ least down here in the SE. You guys in WA and FNQ are probably having a ball).
Barefootpilot Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Oh come on guys whats wrong with you all.... Ok even I'm not working today because of the wind!

Captain Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 The plain language equivalent is: BLOWING LIKE STINK, BUMPY AS BUGGERY, SHOWERS INTERSPERCED WITH RAIN, HAIL OR SNOW, WINDS WILL BE ABOUT 30 KNOTS AND ALMOST ALWAYS CROSS THE STRIP (NO MATTER WHICH AIRPORT YOU CHOOSE), SO LEAVE THE PLANE IN THE HANGAR, COOK BREAKFAST IN BED FOR YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER AND SEE IF THEY SHOW ANY "INTEREST" ..... OR READ A BOOK AND WAIT FOR THE MOTOGP TO COME ONTO FOX.
Captain Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 So what was it Captain?? "Interest" or MotpGP? ;) G'day Kev, Had a good day today. It was both ........ and the Superbikes are on in an hour of so. Looks like being a triple bunger, so April 26, 2009 will go down in infamy. I should add that if you are checking the weather today from your laptop out at the hangar, then the plain language version of what pelorus32 posted will just flash up in big letters "DON'T BE SUCH A DILL".
Tracktop Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Here's the current forecast in code:And here it is decoded by Flightplanner 3000 Plain speak doesn't seem that much longer, and certainly easier to read.
Burlc Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Wind was calm and not a cloud in the sky today in Perth. Expect the same tomorrow.
bushpilot Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 So, P32, how does this Flightplanner 3000 thing work??
farri Posted April 26, 2009 Posted April 26, 2009 Recreational Aviation kept simple?????????????? Frank.
Allan Posted April 27, 2009 Posted April 27, 2009 Bushpilot: this thread might answer your question: http://www.recreationalflying.com/forum/equipment-reviews/30819-flight-planner-3000-version-6-3c.html
