So my CFI tells me where she wants me to plan for my checkride, mentions a few things she'll be checking me on and mentions to get the daylight hours. But no cheating using the internet.

So I think to myself, hmm, we never covered that, must be in one of my books. Or some table in ERSA or something.

But no, can't find a thing.

Anyone have any idea how to do it without just checking the airservices website?

Thanks!

There is a table you can use in the Visual Flight Guide. If you don't have one, I reckon you should get one, some good stuff in there! There is also a calculation you need to do, this will be explained in the text books you are using.

Thanks Dave, been the VFG is on my to buy list next time I place an order for new maps and such. In the mean time I'll use one of the ones laying around the school.

About those calculations: any idea which books? The FTC BAK book nor Jim Davis's PPL seem to mention it.

I thought it was in the Jim Davis book. Arc to time calculations.

Some info here:

Atmospheric light phenomena

Route planning

http://www.abf.net.au/documentation/Training-Manual/Pt8NAV0605v1.pdf

(see page 12)

The graphs and procedure are set out here:

www.casa.gov.au/pilots/download/vfr/pre-flight.pdf

BTW I think that there is a labeling problem with the graph on page 115 at that link. It appears that it should be labeled "End of Daylight".

Mike

PS: Google is your friend. this was the search: aviation +calculating "first light" "last light"

Mike, thanks for the VFG link, didn't realise that one was online too!

That sorts my problem, thanks everyone.
