ryanb Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 Hi, Just seen on FunFlight website seeking pilots to fly around Port Phillip Bay from Recreational to Commercial licences, however i though "Recreational" wern't allowed to Fly in CTA???? Pilot's FAQs - FunFlight Pilot Registration
Guest brentc Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 With the exception of Avalon at certain times of the day and keeping your distance from Moorabbin there isn't any controlled airspace to worry about. A quick call to Mel Radar on 135.7 can give you the status of Avalon, however recently it has been open far more frequently. As per the CTA thread if you've seen it, RA-Aus aircraft with a PPL at the controls are eligible to fly through CTA.
djpacro Posted May 5, 2009 Posted May 5, 2009 The last Funflight route didn't go through Avalon - we crossed the bay just past Werribee South to Portarlington. Reminds me of one of my concerns at the time. Briefing was to generally fly at 1500 ft (from memory) to give a good view. I saw a few aeroplanes a long way below me over the water and I knew they didn't have life-jackets. One pilot didn't care at all when I mentioned it.
