A dumb question from a North Queenslander. I am considering a trip 'south of the border' to visit Cobar, Temora etc later in the year and I'm considering a good time to go (weather-wise). What is mid-September to mid-October like as a general rule? I understand that winter can be a bit 'iffy' (and we banana benders do not own a lot of warm clothes). What would be the recommendation of the locals??

Thats a beautiful time of year here, be prepared for a bit of slow starts, can be warm with very cold nights which can mean fog etc. Frosts should be gone though.

Just plan to start a bit later and i will be fine

I agree with jetjr, Watch the early morning fog (often sits till upto 11 in some areas). If you get a clear morning, skies are perfect. Winds out towards Temora and Cobar can become quite strong so allow time for gusts and strong headwinds.

That time of yr won't be too thermally out on the western side, in summer months, can be like driving over speed humps.

Thanks, Guys. I might try to make the Temora flying days on 23-4 October. I appreciate your input.

Thanks for the invite I'll see what I am doing about then. Have already done the run to Tamora which is a great destination.

My recollection of Cobar is, COLD. I had been doing skydiving training at Gladstone and went to Cobar to work. When the jumpers arrived on the ground the first thing they did was take off their gloves to count fingers. I quickly transferred from parachutes to the glider and was still cold.

I agree but those strong westerly winds can sure make for some solid turbulance down low.
