I bought Stick and Rudder off these people, and the book itself I would very highly recommend, especially the last bit in this newer edition on "The Dangers of the Air" written by Leighton Collins... extremely good info in that, and simply explained:thumb_up:

So It's for sale on Ebay, and they must have quite a few of them because there is always one or two on there from the same place, and very good prices I think... There posted from the UK, but I got mine within eight days and the postage was no more than it would be to post from WA:clap:

So Here it is: Stick and Rudder

Couldn't agree more Tomo - this book is a must for every pilot who wants to live a long life, or fly his aircraft at the highest level of proficiency.

Absolutely incredible book, especially given it was written in 1944 - 65 years ago, closer to the Wright Brothers than today.

And still very current, despite some unfulfilled prophesies like in a few years no airplanes will have rudders ....

Your local library should be able to get it for you, even if they don't have it on the shelf. Ballarat Library transferred the one I have from the other side of Melbourne for 4 weeks loan, at the cost of $2.

Prior to requesting "Stick & Rudder" from the library, I priced it at over $50, but it would be nice to have as a reference book.

Regards, Decca.

That's right, that's why I gave the link to the place where I got mine from... cost me $28.98 including postage from the UK, and like I said, I got it within 8 days....

Mind you, 'cause it's on ebay, you got to find the cheapest one, which there always seems to be.....

Yes Stick and rudder is a good one with some great flight lessions. Number 2 for me would have to be " The Spirit of St Louis" for a great inspirational read........Check it out you won't be dissappointed..................................................................024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

While were talking book club..A must read is "fate is the hunter" by Ernest K Gann.

Im sure some of you will have read it, but it is a great read about the early days of airlines, and how much stuff in those days was done by the seat of the pants.

We all have a lot to be thankful for to these guys who went out and tested the limits so that it is safer for us today.

yes, I liked the part where his check pilot was striking matches as he was coming in to land under extreme conditions - certainly built concentration for him!

A book i read years ago and must get a copy of again was the 'Navy Aviators Handbook' i think it is called.

My favourites are Modern Airmanship edited by Von Sickle, and Flying the edge by Brian Mc Allister. It is not about flying the edge aeroplane, but flying at the edge of the flight envelope.
