Hello Forum

44 y/o Student Pilot at Adelaide Biplanes Adelaide , 11 hrs in Evector Sportstar and loving every minute.

Had a passion for flight since Rossair trip to Moomba every 2 weeks in early 80's

as a pup working the oil fields.

Q : Wanting to purchase own plane in near future or syndicate share , As I myself am Aussie made and proud ! I am interested in Jabiru 170 , have not flown as yet and would like to hear from anyone who has , and can discuss difference to Sportstar.

Thanks

Bacchus

Hi Baccus. good to welcome another Aldinga-ite. There was a share going in the AAC Jab-160 a month or so ago. Might still be available although there was a minimum of hours. Not sure how many.

There's a huge difference in the Sportstar and Jabiru. It's been said that if you can fly the Jab LSA55 you can fly anything, but not the reverse. Don't know about a 160 or 170. The one time I had a fly in a Sportstar, I found it very mundain, but that could have been just a very still day.

Hiya Bacchus. You are Sooo lucky starting out at your age.

Nev (Facthunter) likes you already because your name is Bacchus, Doug (Deskpilot) likes you already because you’re an Aldinga-ite.

Well I 098_welcome.gif.81ff07d492568199326e4f64f78d7bc6.gif you to the forums too, from a fellow South Australian (born & bred) turned Australian because I can’t hack the parochial interstate rivalry. Anyone who asks me where I’m from now gets the standard answer “Australia”.

Enjoy. Regards, Decca.

Thanks to Nev , Doug and Decca ,

Yes Nev the nickname Bacchus is indeed a spin from my love of good Red , and as Doug would know there is plenty of it over the hill from lovely Aldinga Airfield.

Thanks Doug , have e'mailed Aldinga Aero Club re Jab syndicate and asked for information regarding hrs as PIC required.

May look to build a kit over a period of time so any opinions on kits would be appreciated from those who have been involved in either Jab kits or Morgan Aero Sierra with Jab Engine

Regards

Bacchus

G'day, I am pretty sure it was 100 hours. that is certainly a standard minimum for syndicates that I have seen.

I have only ever flown the SportStar but have read many times that it is a very easy aircraft to fly compared to most similar aircraft.
