Garmin 296 / 396 voice prompts

Was watching someone (fellow forum member) working on their 296 yesterday and realised something significant.

 

By purchasing a data cable (versus the cigarette power cable) and interfacing into your intercom or headsets etc you get the full voice features, which appears to give you voice prompts for all warnings and messages that appear on the unit.

 

Question for the wise though, has anyone done this and do the Terrain warnings become audible with this configuration?

 

If they do and you have a suitable intercom to interface this into, I HIGHLY recommend that you swap your power cable for the data cable and wire this up, it will really impress your passengers!
