Yenn Posted June 20, 2009 Posted June 20, 2009 Subject: Fw: IQ test - BTW - it's not that hard Find the 6th number in the sequence 1, 2, 6, 42, 1806, ??????? Apparently only people with an IQ of over 120, manage to complete This. Have fun! This was sent to me with an attachment, which was a spreadsheet that would only open if you put the missing number in as a password. Sadly I don't seem to be able to attach the spreadsheet. Give it a go and if you get the answer, just post it here. My IQ has shot up today, unbelievable really.
winsor68 Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 I thought the answer was 1...I guess I am not so smart after all...
Tomo Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 Too easy... Here ya go.... give this one a crack.......... 1, 8, 64, 32768, [11651318.54 X 5898], ??????????
shags_j Posted June 24, 2009 Posted June 24, 2009 That's a bit harder. Leave it with me. EDIT: Think i've got it. Highlight for answer possibly (not the number, too damn big)? [ANSWER] Is it that number squared *the previous number? [/ANSWER]
Tomo Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 (not the number, too damn big)? Yep... she's a big number!!! but all things big can be made small nowadays!;)
slartibartfast Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 The next number is 154742504910672534362390528. I don't agree with your last number [11651318.54 X 5898] though. Were you trying to be confusing? What's 5898 got to do with it? If you're going to write it that way it would be [11651318.537809426924381146151238 X 5898] so rounding just confuses the matter. The actual progression should be: 1, 8, 64, 32678, 68719476736, 154742504910672534362390528, 1.6455045573212060421549691825574e+63, 4.1899399781070615936168828119393e+152, etc.
shags_j Posted June 25, 2009 Posted June 25, 2009 I concur with the last number comment. It's out by a few numbers (and definitely shouldn't have a decimal). That's why I was a little unsure about my answer.

Yep, just to make it more confusing!! and to shorten it a bit! The decimal is there because if you work out that particular problem it comes to: 6.871947675ExpX10 X 10 You could write it down, but it's a bit long....! To make a long story short..... Slarti got the answer right!
