Guest skyfox49 Posted June 27, 2009 Posted June 27, 2009 Up the doofy with this one. I have been doing gfpt training, but i need xwind training to get it checked off. If there is no xwind on test day i have to be tested for xwind within 28 days or the entire test is voided. I lived and started near moorabbin but now ascot vale, but travel, still to ymmb . The plane and instructor is always busy unless i prebook and then most of the time there is no xwind. Is there a good circuit area in the west, that get more than their share of xwinds?
Guest pelorus32 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Sounds like you need to organise a jaunt with your instructor. Whilst places like YMMB will almost always use the in to wind rwy as the active, there will be half a dozen places that you could fly to and do some xwind work. Some will be PPR but you could organise that. What about Point Cook (? don't know whether you can get access). Bacchus Marsh, Lethbridge, Lilydale, Coldstream, Tooradin, Tyabb... Kyneton is effectively a single strip for the next 9 or 10 months with the east-west strip u/s. Some of those are single strip so depending on the wind you might pick one over the other on any given day. It's surprising that you've got to this stage without much xwind. It's a skill well worth refining. Regards Mike
Guest drizzt1978 Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 When we have wind, we have nice X wind fun at Tooradin....
facthunter Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Little X-country. Mikes suggestion is a good one. It does no harm to operate at a new aerodrome for a change. Gets the cobwebs out of the circuit work. Shows how much you have been relying on the "cues" that you have accumulated. Nev.
Guest brentc Posted June 28, 2009 Posted June 28, 2009 Most of the Moorabbin flying schools have an agreement with Tooradin (only 12 mins by Jabiru from Moorabbin) that allows them to perform cross-wind circuits. We have crosswinds on 90% of days and we have a good 500 metre short strip that is guaranteed to get you a crosswind. Is Bernie your CFI for this?
Guest Qwerty Posted June 29, 2009 Posted June 29, 2009 Come to Georgetown. There is ALWAYS a crosswind at Georgetown or better still St Helens. I have never seen anything but crosswinds at St Helens.
Guest skyfox49 Posted June 30, 2009 Posted June 30, 2009 Tristar aviation, adrain fleming is the CFI. I have flown over tooradin a few times in training area missions.
