The iPhone is great and there's some awesome apps for aviation use.

I've got CoPilot, NAIPS, FlightPlan and PilotWizPro to name the main apps.

Having said that, you can't rely on the apps to get you out of the poo!

The AH and various apps that show attitude, altitude and airspeed must never be used in a real situation or relied on for the purpose of flying!! How ever they are good fun to much around with!

I use NAIPS and get the correct forecasts and you can save them to reference them in flight. The iPhone has Airplane mode so you can switch that off so there's no RF emissions.

CoPilot is great for double checking your nav calculations but I always use the wizz wheel and flight plan as my primary calculations and documents for long flights.

You'll love the iPhone, check one out!

Well Im anti anything made by Apple but even I have to admit some of the iphone apps are really cool if only they made a version without the apple symbol!

of course i would never rely on the limitations of those novelty applications and i assume others here would never put themselves in a situation were they needed an AH (IMC) but there are some really handy apps that could be accessed quickly'

i like the density calculator, that is something we could all use from time to time.

i am due for a new phone in november i'll upgrade the blackberry.

I have one on the new HTC Magic Phones. They allow anyone to write apps.

I am hoping that soon some Aussies will create aps for aviation.

I hear the gyro apps are foiled rather badly by turbulence, so not very useful indeed. Buy a Dynon instead! :)

Hmmm: used 16GB 3G, like mine, goes for $580-$650 on eBay. New 3GS is $879 so could upgrade for just $300. Tempting!

Oh man, you are running iTunes on Windows, aren't you? Great Apple software sucks in their Windows versions. Just like Microsoft Office sucks even more on a Mac than it already does on Windows! 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

The only time I'll ever use any form of Windows based computer will be at work. We've got the full Apple set up at home with Airport and wireless printing, two MacBooks, the iPhones and soon Apple TV and Time Capsule.

I'll be steering clear of anything Windows for home from now on!

All-Mac at home for the missus and I. Unfortunately, all day every day Windows at work. Windows seems pretty reasonable, until you switch and you realise just how much less crap you have to deal with to keep things ticking over... (Not to mention how much better a lot of the Apple and 3rd party software is, even though the choice may be less.)

My mum runs a small business and switched two years ago. Even though she had to get used to the new OS (and at her age and being an average user), support calls to my brother and I went way down from what they were, to virtually none now. (and now they are trivial one, certainly not: "software/device x just stopped working for no reason and I can't get it working again even with a restart".)

Can't recommend it highly enough!

(now if only X-Plane had the same quality Australian scenery as you can get for FSX...)

I agree mate, I could very well be selling X-Plane and going back to FSX but at the moment I barely have time to scratch myself so playing around on the Flight Sim's has been few and far between at the moment!

Ah yes but can you build and pimp your own iCrap PC at home outa bits a pieces you have laying around and oh I dont know take your laptop to your mates house and browse using his network and shard drives without any "major apple I dont like this network and DHCP issues" well..........No is the short answer yes is the long answer if you have infinite time to spare setting it up - Apple for me never, tried it twice not once but twice would never ever go back not even if u gave me one....infact someone did give me a apple laptop and its still in its box in my wardrobe!

But if you guys are enjoying them then good one ya I reckon
