J230 at altitude say at 8500 feet 2900rpm or higher ( remeber percentage power will drop off with altitude so you will have to rev higher to get 75% pwr) what true airspeed (TAS) will it do?? jive.gif.035c4a81724c712198cdb1757d6fb926.gif

See the photo in post #339 of J230 @ YSWG which shows 8520 ft, 2840 rpm and TAS of 115 knots but this is climbing slightly.

At 2900 it shows 118 - 119 knots regularly, but mine is a little heavier than a factory version, and has a spat only on the nose wheel.

The photo in post # 331 of that thread also shows 7050 ft, 2880 rpm and TAS of 117 knots.

Hope this helps.

I haven't been to those heights (restricted to 5000) but up to there, typically 124 ktas at 2850.

John,

At those figures yours goes well, as that is quick compared to mine. What l/min are you getting at that 2900 rpm?

I get the same cruise figures as John with my J230. At 2850 around 24 ltrs/hr. In rough air it tends to drop back to around the 120kts (TAS) - Increasing pwr to 2900 brings it back to 124/5 kts (TAS) and increases the fuel burn to around 29/30 ltrs per hour.

134 TAS with the throttle wide open - glad I didn't work out the fuel flow!

At a more normal throttle settings I am seeing 110-115 at 2650 RPM and 120 TAS at 2850.

From memory 3,000amsl - Can't recall the details but was nothing special - I have flown a few J230's and they all go very well!

And of course indicated airspeed was a lot lower than true airspeed (I had TAS from the Dynon EFIS that has an OAT).

Full power is not the recommended cruise setting!
