The 27th World Aerobatic Championships commences on Oct 9th in Texas, USA.

An Australian team is practicing hard at a small airport in Oklahoma. Two of them, Rob Noonan and Paul Andronicou, competed at the recent US Nationals. Grant Piper arrived a few days ago. All three will fly the same MX2.

Practice has been going well here in Oklahoma for the three guys despite the windy conditions. Severe bad weather forecast for the end of the week will definitely stop the flying.

Gee, on this trip we have been caught in floods, stranded in snow and now tornadoes forecast.

Another Australian team pilot, Richard Wiltshire, is training on an MXS in Louisiana.

El Reno, OK, the Australian team's practice site has been shared with a sole Canadian flying a Sukhoi and he will soon be joined by the rest of the Canadian team. The French team has also decided to practice here instead of the site in Texas that was allocated to them.

It is going to get very busy today.

I have been practicing my schoolboy French with Fly-n-Kiss pilot Kathel Boulanger.DSCN1172.JPG.46a95d9970f4ab7fb1787b87131a72bf.JPG

DSCN1177.JPG.f52edc0bd58ab4c65dcab79769c3b549.JPG Seems that the French are still down in Texas with a storm between us so a quiet day here in El Reno. More performance improvements by the three Australians - positive snap rolls requiring the most focus - and the Known Sequence has six of them so they need to be just right.

The Known Sequence is here: http://www.aerobaticsaustralia.com.au/sequences/2013/unlimited2013.pdf

If anyone is interested there are guides to aerobatic competition flying online:

Final day of practice completed successfully at El Reno, OK, and on to North Texas Regional Airport for the contest.

Here, Grant helps Paul get going in the MX2.

Wind above the contest maximum delayed the start of flying today and slow progress (other traffic at the airport was a big factor) meant that only 18 of the 60 pilots got to fly the Qualifying round. Continued tomorrow.

Rob Noonan again performed quite well. More later.

Due weather, not much progress yesterday and I guess not much again today. Australians Grant, Rich and Rob have flown so you can check their scores online.

Seems to me that the big debate to follow will be how to judge snap rolls and how to fly them to earn high scores. More on this later.

The Free sequences are almost finished with Paul doing very well to be in 35th place overall.

With not much time left it seems that they may do a cut to limit the number of pilots to fly the Unknown sequence. I am afraid that no Australian will get the opportunity.

Finally, Rob Holland came 5th overall in the "classic" contest however won the separate 4 Min Free contest for the second time. He recently won the same contest at the US nationals recently with, I guess, the same sequence

Well, he sure knows a thing or two about flying .... and also about not flying! Very impressive, both pilot and plane.
