AJ85WA Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Hi Everyone I am kinda new to this site and have been keeping to myself as most of you have prob got a lot more experience than myself. But hey im on my way to getting my GA PPL and just passed my GFPT im so super excited about it, im taking my old man for a flight tomorrow and just been thinking of the route i will follow But is it just me or does everyone find that when your doing that checkride with the chief pilot next to you everything just goes wrong?? When i was doing my checkride i totaly stuffed up my forward slip, was very high on my Forced landing and i cant believe it that i had a shocking normal landing ...all of the above i obviously had to do again to prove my airworthyness , but seriously i never had problems until that day, Brings a person down a bit:sad: But hey I still passed and im super happy about it! Bring on the NAV's! Cheers Guys moderated for language - Ian
Tomo Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Awesome mate! It's great to hear you are having fun... The Nav's are awesome to do... so enjoy them! Have fun today, and keep safe.
Ultralights Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 congratulations, you must have been pretty good if you passed!
Simonflyer Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Go easy on yaself mate.. It's nerve racking to do the tests, but over time you will get more and more comfortable with them as your hours and experience increase.Thats not to say that you wont get the jitters tho.Remember no instructor is likely to put you up for any test before you are ready, so if they thought you were good enough then you probably are..And you did pass:thumb_up: Something that really helps me when I sit tests is to "fly" all of the prec searches, forced landings, stalls etc in my mind many times before i actually do it in the air.I even go so far as to sit in the airplane (if i can get the time in it) and do every movement a number of times so that when it comes to doing it for real, my hands know where to go without too much thought and that leaves me free-er to fly the plane. That also goes for all the radio calls and any other things that i dont want to be clogging up time with in the air.. Enjoy the flight with ya old man...

Guest s030141 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Right there with you mate!! "But is it just me or does everyone find that when your doing that checkride with the chief pilot next to you everything just goes wrong?? When i was doing my checkride i totaly stuffed up my forward slip, was very high on my Forced landing and i cant believe it that i had a shocking normal landing" Yep, sounds like me when i first tried the GFPT. I failed the Precautionary Search and Forced Landings. They were very messy and i forgot the procedures and i couldnt tell the difference between crop fields and landable fields. i_dunno But i took the test again, passing everything on the sheet after many nights writing the procedures from memory on notepad and checking them to see if i missed anything and if its in the right sequence. But, because of my age (15) my instructor says i can only take 1 passenger up and only in the circuit. But, if i want to, i can go up by myself for a fly 10nm radius of the departed aerodrome. I'm quite happy with myself, and yes i agree with you..."BRING ON THE NAVIGATION" - I passed geography at school and got 98% in my exam  Happy flying and i get my full RA Licence (Recreation Aviation) in December 2009 when i turn 16.
Yenn Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Congratulations. Ive never had the jitters about examinations, don't know why. I did push my luck with the CFI. In a C172 he turned the fuel off, thinking I wouldn't see and I turned it back on again, which he didn't see. It was lovely to sit back and watch him as he realised the engine wasn't going to stop. I told him I was pilot in command and therefore had to know what was happening. So he just pulled the throttle on me. I did pass.
