Guest boydie Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Hi I have just joined to get back in touch with aviation after resigning from Qantaslink almost four years ago. I miss the flying but dont want to go back to RPT and hope to get involved in Recreational flying soon. I am a RV fan and would love to own a RV6 or 7 at some stage but will probably start out with somthing cheaper. I finished my airline career with over 7000 hours on Dash 8s but have flown Lears and quite a few turboprops along with vertually all the Cessna range and during the early 1980s we owned a company called The Little Aeroplane Company selling the Canadian Birdman Chinook Ultralights. I with my family bought a R/C hobby shop (Hstore Hobbies) after I left the airline so I fly R/C models regularly but this only enthuses me to get back in the real thing. I am not up to speed on the regulations regarding the my qualifications and what RA aircraft I can legally fly with my ATPL. I was lucky enough to be able to renew my licence and rating last November. I have a current command instrument rating with 18800 hours. Could someone advise what I have to do to be legal in a RA aircraft. Ian
Guest Qwerty Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Gday Ian and welcome You will need to get an RAAus Pilot Certificate. I am guessing that you wont have much trouble with the theory. The practical might be a fun learning curve for you. Recreational a/c are very light and mostly, very responsive and I am told that they take some getting used to for GA trained pilots. Check out this site <Welcome to Recreational Aviation Australia> , its got everything you need. You will get heaps of good info on here too. Do you have any idea what sort of flying you want to get into?? What sort of a/c interests you?? All the best, and welcome again, Qwerty.
Guest Qwerty Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks, your edit answered most of my questions. BTW, a mate told me today that his NEW RV7 is for sale. 40 hrs TTIS, $150K.... I wish I had a few spare $.
Guest boydie Posted September 27, 2009 Posted September 27, 2009 Thanks for the quick reply. If I had 150K I would grab it with both hands. I will keep an eye on this site it look great. Regards Ian
Yenn Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 G'day boydie. There are several RAAus planes that fly like GA Cessnas etc. In fact some used to be only GA registerable until not so long ago, such as my Corby Starlet. That of course is a single seater which I am thinking of selling. Need the money to build again. Im'e sure you are going to enjoy getting back into it.
