Guest ozzie Posted September 29, 2009 Posted September 29, 2009 it holds the 1/4 mile record for a jeep.
Guest Maj Millard Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 Great stuff, reminds me of some of the drops they did out of Richmond NSW in the early 70s. They decided they would drop a D6 Dozer out of a Herc, on about six large cargo chutes. Tripled up on the crushable cushioning underneath the dozer for the landing impact and all. Unfortunatly it was all for naught, as the dozer left the ramp a thousand feet above, it proceeded to tumble spectaculaly, wrapping itself up in the six deploying chutes as it did. Although we all knew it would impact some distance from us, the only response to an 8 ton dozer overhead, hurtling eartwards, was to RUN !!. Which we all did, strangly enough. There was not much projecting above the hole after impact, and every bit of metal including engine and gearbox was cracked.......................................
