shags_j Posted October 14, 2009 Posted October 14, 2009 Hi all, So was just having a look at the new cheetah site posted in a another thread here and had a thought. The Cheetah specs with the various engines: ROTAX 582 Useful Load = 312 Cruise = 75mph ROTAX 912 Useful Load = 288 Cruise = 90mph ROTAX 912s Useful Load = 286 Cruise = 100mph (gees I wish these people would use knots )... So I was wondering, when looking at an aircraft at what point do you sacrifice useful load for speed. The jump between the 582 and the 912 seems quite large. Large enough to wonder if that extra weight would be handy or not. Anyways just a thought. Cheers, Shags
Yenn Posted October 15, 2009 Posted October 15, 2009 There is more to it than just looking at the numbers. Some of that useful load will be taken up by fuel, and the 582 uses alot more fuel than the 912 Not running either, I am not sure of the numbers, but it looks to me that the 912 may actually come out ahead.
shags_j Posted October 15, 2009 Author Posted October 15, 2009 Good point. Guess there is a lot more for me to learn in this space.
