skeptic36 Posted October 25, 2009 Posted October 25, 2009 Just heard on ABC local news an ultralight crash at Latrobe Valley yesterday afternoon 2 people taken to hospital. Anyone know anything about this? Just found this http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2009/02/04/2482262.htm Regards Bill
Guest Maj Millard Posted October 26, 2009 Posted October 26, 2009 It's good to hear that both recieved only minor injuries. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but knowing what I do about composit structures, would you have to suspect there could be possible internal delamination damage to the fuselage and wings, tail etc, after an event like this ?. Does the Jab maintenance manual have any imput into this ?...................
Yenn Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 From my recollection the structure is such that the bolts holding the nose wheel pull through, before there is major damage. A jab driver would know better than me.
Guest Maj Millard Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Yes Yenn, your probabily correct there, but what about when the tail and wings contact the ground during the flip over, particuly the tail which must stress the rear fuselage ?....does it go back to the factory for ultrasound or tap testing of the Fiberglaqss structure for any delamination, or does any cracking in the finish just get sanded, and some new gelcoat/resin just gets put on ?....................................................................... ..
Dieselten Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Back to the factory is best option. Let the experts assess it. Jabs are tough little birds.
