Guest Qwerty Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Hi Guys I've Just returned from ferrying a Savannah from Hobart to Victoria, it was a good trip, met plenty of nice people and dealt with all the usual hiccups on these sorts of trips. On this trip though the a/c was GA registered and when I got to Hobart ready to hop in and go at 7:00 am, the maintenance release was calandar expired. That took some sorting out with CASA who went to a lot of effort to get me in the air. I was able to arrange a permit through Moorabbin in under an hour. Thanks to the CASA staff at Moorabbin and thanks partly to me having L2. Yesterday afternoon, I was home for about 10 min when a guy mentioned that he would like his Cessna ferried from SA to TAS so it looks like I will be heading back to SA for the third ferry trip there in four weeks. I've delivered a heap of aircraft now (7) and I'm happy ferry anywhere, so If you need an experienced ferry pilot, PM me. BTW I have plenty of hours in plenty of a/c including a balloon although I am not too sure about a delivery flight in a balloon:laugh: My GF and I are taking the Jab to the remote South West of Tassie today with one of my mates and his wife in their Jab. I've been in the area before but not into the hand built strip at Melaleauca (Bathurst Harbour), I'm looking forward to it. This is some of the roughest country in Oz. Cheers Qwerty

Guest Mad Dave Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Qwerty, I heard a jab on Melb radar yesterday (or was it Saturday?) tracking Wilsons Prom to Georgetown 5000', was that you? Dave
Guest Qwerty Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Yep, that was us. It was Sat. Rod was using his newly accuired radio skills. Good flight, 1.6 hrs Latrobe Valley - George Town.
Guest Mad Dave Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Nice one! That was just before I had an alternator failure and had to turn the radios off:(
motzartmerv Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Dexter. I'll give you a list of the problems we have had with ours. 1. Aileron torque tube and mass balancing mods not performed. 2. Wing attachment clevis pins and receptical's flogged and out of tolerance. 3. Fuel tanks lined with non avgas compatible filler (result; new tanks) 4. Trim out of tolernace. 5. Undercarriage bungess perished. 6 And the one that tops it all, new undercarriage bungees installed, and after 11.2 hours of flying, the starboard bungee failed completley. The wire retainer didnt do its job and the wing broke the fall causing damage to the wing tip and wing strut. Status of the spar is not yet known. Total $$ spent before the incident, $3500 for aileron mods. $7000 for new tanks and clevis pin engineering order. Othere bits and pieces, adds up to around $12000. Just to get it airworthy. Not Happy Jan....
Guest Maj Millard Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 Don't want to upset you further Merv, but does it have the correct approved wing-strut carry thru tube, and are you still flying without one of the two approved aileron hanger strengthening mods ? And on a personal note, did you get my PM re Jaspers Brush ?
motzartmerv Posted November 9, 2009 Posted November 9, 2009 G'day Major. No , i didn't get a pm from you mate??wots happnin? The carry through mod has been done, aswell as one of the hanger strengthening mods. Not sure which one. LAME tells me they have been done. But no, we aren't flying it at the moment. It has had very little use of late (before the incident). It would seem people have lost faith in the old girl. Don't get me wrong, i think they have been an exellent training aircraft for a lot of years, but i feel that the technology is getting a little long in the tooth, and if i feel i need to "nurse" the airframe then the training provided in the acft will be watered down.. IMHO. ps, sorry to querty for hijakking his thread.
