Yenn Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 A lot depends upon the length of the runway, why go around if there is 2000m of strip, slow down, watch the plane take off, then land. Of course you may then find you are taxying back for 2000m in the face of other landing traffic which hasn't seen you. Been there.
Tomo Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 no way i would land in front of someone on the runway. In our case, the aircraft in question stopped, and we had radio contact, he said we could continue landing - mind you there was aircraft everywhere, gliders all lined up just before the threshold getting ready to tow etc...
shags_j Posted November 10, 2009 Author Posted November 10, 2009 Tomo, not criticising, just I wouldn't do it. Certainly not with my experience.
Tomo Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 Tomo, not criticising, just I wouldn't do it. Certainly not with my experience. No worrys... I myself wouldn't probably do it either. I find it just as easy to wait or go around. But my instructor who was with me at the time said it was Ok for me, because we had established contact to the other aircraft, and he was willing to wait, after all he did barge in!!
bilby54 Posted November 10, 2009 Posted November 10, 2009 If you think about it, an engine problem could happen at anytime which includes taxying. Who is to say that the Cessna pilot did not see or know of the approaching Drifter and considered that there was ample time to line up and take off - why else do we have to tell all and sundry what type of aircraft we are flying if not to help with separation? The big thing is that you made the decision to go around and being the pilot in command, it is your responsibility to make that decision. Tony Hayes summed it up with " Airmanship is not who is right but who is left" Good flying I reckon
