Old Koreelah Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I have a mobs of Canouba wax left over from fibreglassing jobs 30 years ago. Is there any reason I can't use it to wax the skin of my plywood and fabric plane to protect the paintwork and repel moisture? I hear that silicon-based protective layers cause problems if you need to make a repair, so is Canouba suitable? Lyle
turboplanner Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I think old Icarus had some problems with that. I haven't had any personal experience with it on fabric, but in the hot sun it tends to melt and allow dust and sand to adhere, giving a grubby appearance.
Guest Maj Millard Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 I used it for years on wood props. Seals them real good and certainly stopped the bugs from sticking. Worth a try on fabric. Your just puuting it on the paint really not the fabric, and should be easy to remove with a suitable remover if repair is required. Really it is the best wax and generally a well applied coat lasts around a year on most cars.....................
Yenn Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Iv'e used carnuba based car polish on a fabric covered aircraft with no problems. The silicone based polishes have to be completely removed from any surface before repairs can be re finished.
Guest drizzt1978 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 Ive put wax on my skin a few times.......whoops wrong thread......
