Hey, it's a real danger to all our airfields no matter how secure they may seem. I saw the same thing happen in California in the 80s, airfields that had been there since day one, replaced in weeks with acres of ugly track houses. The land sharks offer the council of the day an offer they can't refuse, (especially these days) and before you know it , it's a done deal. Every airport in this country should erect a sign at the gate...'All Landsharks shot on sight !!'

Up here in the North we have a drama going on with Ayr airport at the moment. Ayr airport is supposed to be a community airport, and has always been. Along comes a Seventh Day Adventist mob calling themselves World Adventure Group or whatever, and wants to lease the airport (read : control the airport totally) for their "missionary training school". Like hullo, what about the rest of us who have supported and kept the airfield going all these years.

The main problem with airports is that they have acreage....lots of it.

Where do they get off ?.........................................................................................024_cool.gif.7a88a3168ebd868f5549631161e2b369.gif

Hi Maj

You have to keep an eye on these minority religious groups the next thing will be no flying on a Saturday. However they are extremely well organized ,well funded and very well connected. If you had asked around Cooranbong five to ten years ago will they subdivide the airfield and sell off the flying school the answer would have been a resounding No.

Most people think that it is just the housing but if you delve into it the zoning allows for a hospital or other health based business. This is not widely known even in the local SDA community (Those who lost jobs with the flying school were SDA)

So in years to come I would expect to see medium density housing, nursing homes, and maybe a training hospital all of which will generate a tidy (tax free ) income stream for what is supposed to be a not for profit organization.

Maybe missionaries don't need to learn to fly anymore.099_off_topic.gif.20188a5321221476a2fad1197804b380.gif

Perhaps that comment relates to Seventh Day Adventists. However, there are still many missionaries flying with Missionary Aviation Fellowship (MAF); see: http://www.maf.org.au/

Perhaps they Seventh Day Adventists should go back to Coorangbong and leave Ayr Airport for the local community: two problems solved in one go!
