Spin Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 On news a short time ago, air and sea search following an anonymous report of what was described as an ultralight which dropped into the sea just off North Stradbroke Island, SEQ. Holding thumbs it was some braindead hoax!
Mazda Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 There was a Jab heading south this afternoon planning to land at Heck Field. If anyone is based at Heck Field could you advise if a NSW based Jab landed there this afternoon? I've tried to phone the field to check, it went through to messagebank. Does anyone have any contact details for someone who may be there?
Spin Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 Mazda, don't know anyone personally, however you could try: ...edit. obsolete Good luck, Carl Edit more contact numbers here. http://www.gcsfc.org.au/
Mazda Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Thanks Carl, got through to Patrick, he's on holidays and obviously didn't know and the other two numbers went through to voicemail. I'll look at the site.
Mazda Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 Thanks again Carl, I got through to someone and they are OK. Now let's hope the report of something going down off Point Lookout is false.
Spin Posted January 1, 2010 Author Posted January 1, 2010 No problem Mazda, glad your part of the story ended well. I heard on a later bulletin that the anonymous informant had contacted police again and that it didn't seem to be a hoax. That said, the news has gone quiet since then, so hopefully it is a case of someone mistaking a diving seabird for a plunging aircraft.
Yenn Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 ABC news also said there were no reports of missing hang gliders, so it appears that it was either a hoax or someone got it wrong. We had a case recently where an ultralight was reported to have gone down into the sea. It didn't happen, the plane went low to investigate a shark near swimmers and was not seen to come up from behind the island.
