Tomo Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 I went and checked out Cooloola Cove Airpark the other day while over there. Not a bad strip at all, was impressed actually. Nothing much in the way of facility's, only a little open shed with aircraft in it, a fixed tie down point, and an outdoor BBQ. Not sure about water or power, but It didn't look like it. About 6 Klms to the town center, but there is residence houses not far from the edge of the strip, so if it was me, I'd try an get a lift into town if need be, or taxi I guess. But if you had to walk that both ways, you'd probably prefer not to. A few pictures I took on my phone to show what it's like. Guest Maj Millard Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Damn nice looking strip Tomo, where the hell is it actually ?.what sort of flying machine was in the hangar ?...............................
dazza 38 Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Hi Major, it is beside tin can bay.(i think). cheers
Tomo Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Yep, next door to Tin Can Bay, and a stone's throw from Rainbow Beach. The one near Rainbow beach I haven't been to yet. Apparently that one is in between Rainbow and Inskip point, was really wanting to check it out as well, but time got in the away. I agree it's a beaut strip, was pleasantly surprised once I climbed over the gate and went for a walk. (self authorization you see! ) Figured If I'm allowed to land there, I can climb the gate too! ;) These were the aircraft there... a J400 and Cessna 182 Pic's
Guest Crezzi Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Figured If I'm allowed to land there, I can climb the gate too! Landing is PPR though ! Cheers John
dunlopdangler Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Looks like the strip hasn't changed much since I used it about ten years ago...still a nice strip..though the airpark development looks a little stalled to say the least. I've used the other strip at Inskip Point at times to go fishing (met mates with their boats which we launched off the beach) it is just as good and 800 metres long, so there you go Tomo, take your fishing gear and enjoy the great outdoors.

Guest Maj Millard Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Nice clean looking 182.............................................................
Tomo Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Nice clean looking 182............................................................. 182 is it? Yes it must of had a coat of paint I reckon, still had the new shine on it.
Mazda Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Thanks for posting that Tomo! I've been interested in flying in there and wondered what it was like. You've said it is around 6km from town, I'm not a local - how far do you think it would be to the marina? I have a friend there and would love to drop in some time.
winsor68 Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Apparently the strip at Rainbow has had some upgrade work (i.e. truck loads of fill) in the last year... Rumour is that someone is planning on hangaring a Yak? That strip is a little way from the Rainbow "Township"... Hitch a ride to the servo and hire a motor scooter and you would be set... We (the family and I) just spent a week and a half in Rainbow... The teenage daughter and I went for a tandem paraglide with Jean-Luc from the Carlo Sandblow...
Bernie Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Cooloola Cove The 182 belongs to Rod Robertson callsign EVC Bernie.

No worrys Mazda, that's why I did it. I only guesstimated about 6klm to the shopping center of Cooloola Cove, Tin Can itself is about 4.5 klm (I think) from Cooloola Cove shopping center. I rode my push bike so I'm only guessing. You can actually hear boats from the airstrip to the Nrt East, but I doubt you could get through that way! Google Earth shows it quite well... But If you want to go to the Mariner in Tin Can, this is the only strip close enough, the one near Rainbow is a lot further off.

ellpar Posted January 23, 2010 Posted January 23, 2010 If you ring Rod (number in ersa) he is an extremely friendly bloke, says he loves to have fly in visitors and will probably pick you up and show you around
Guest Escadrille Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Looks really nice Tomo, I can't wait to get up there! Sigh...i_dunno
Guest Sharp End Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Thanks very much to Rod, we landed at Cooloola and had a great day sight-seeing and visiting the marina. Excellent strip - nice and long - just what the Airtourer needs on a hot day!
Guest Sharp End Posted January 28, 2010 Posted January 28, 2010 Pics at Cooloola I hope this attempt to upload pics worked...
