Gamin 296 lost Jeppesen Database

Hi

 

I have a Garmin 296 for approx 18 months in which time I have had replaced 2 times as a result of losing the Jeppesen Database. All of my Waypoints remain active the GPS navigation if fine, cities & towns are still active but I have no Nearest Airport or any other airport data that was originally on the unit. I have carried out a "re-boot" as recommended by the support company. The lose of this data occurred in all instances over a period of time, at first becoming intermittant until finally stopped. I always start my motor prior to plugging the GPS into a cigarette lighter socket & unplug the GPS before turning the motor off in case it was getting a "spike".

 

Has anyone else experienced this problem or offer a solution.

Darryn, Have you gone to 'avionics' and read the 7th entry down re; garmin 296. Also generally you get more response to something, if you list it in 'General discussion' Cheers

Switch it on, then switch it into marine navigation mode, let it acquire satellites, when it has a fix, switch it back into aviation mode, switch back off, then power up again. This worked for a friend at YWOL who had exactly the same problem.

Hi Dieselten, thanks for your reply, unfortunately I do not have the marine database installed, I will see if I can switch to marine anyway & then back & let you know if it worked
