Tomo Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Click on the little ruler button at the top of Google Earth to get a measuring tool. You can use this to measure the length of your strip in metres, km, feet or whatever. Marvelous! Thanks Powewin... And my guess was pretty spot on too... 798m it reckons! If you're game you can come down between the trees and touch down beside the house (northern end) and you'll probably add another 150 meters to it.
Guest Escadrille Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Tomo, Trees? House? I must be looking at the wrong place! You said the strip is slightly NNW of your place? I can see a shed beside astrip and a house off to the NW corner.. I'll have another look on Google Earth..
Powerin Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Marvelous! Thanks Powewin...And my guess was pretty spot on too... 798m it reckons! If you're game you can come down between the trees and touch down beside the house (northern end) and you'll probably add another 150 meters to it. No worries! You can also use the tool to measure distances you want to fly (change the units to nautical miles if you like). If you want to measure multiple points use the "path" tab and you can click on and add together all the different points you want fly to. Escadrille....Slarti has made a Google Earth placemarker for Tomo's strip. It is here: Tomo's Strip Peter
Tomo Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 No, you'd be looking at the right place... the trees are on the sides of the gravel road on the northern end... they aren't really a problem, but they are gums, and very tall! but it's pretty good, the power line is the main thing to watch running to the house. Thanks Peter.
Guest Escadrille Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 COOL Yes I had the right place all right. All things being well, I will have the new Cummins spinner on my Jab this weekend and I will be able to commit a lot more aviation and get out there soon! Thanks Powewin and Tomo.
dunlopdangler Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Some good video links there Tom, how do you put them into your post as you have done with youtube? :pc strikes back: I was going to ask you that this arvo out at the airport, but was tied up on the phone having a "deep & meaningful" while I was waiting for Robbie to finish working on the 182.
Tomo Posted January 20, 2010 Posted January 20, 2010 Yeah, thought it must of been pretty 'deep' ! Anyway, to put video in the posts like that, you just past the youtube link into it, and it automatically embeds it to a video frame, (pretty clever really!).
