brilin_air Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 I am planning to take a mate to Polo flat , Cooma on Monday 25th jan and would like any local pilots from that area to give me the heads up on any local things to look out for, such as active flying schools and bird hazards, being in the hills does it suffer from rotor turbulance? Many thanks Brian
slartibartfast Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Hi Brian (say hi to Linda). I haven't flown Polo Flat in nearly 30 years. That's where I first went solo. There's a lot of info on this site run by Mike and Elizabeth Apps - the owners. It says prior permission is essential. Have a good one. Ross
408059 Posted January 21, 2010 Posted January 21, 2010 Brian I have a Cassutt Racer in the hangar at Polo Flat. There is an active RAA school on site but at this time of the year they tend to operate in the morning. There is fuel on site. The main strip is some 5000 feet in length with a bitumen centre of 2500 feet. Circuits on the main strip are out to East to avoid overflying the town. The cross strip is not often used so it is rough. There is a radio mast on the Southern end. The gliding club 15 km to the North at Bunyan may be operating so check 122.7 on the way through.Check your Ersa and give Mike a call because the cattle may be out if it is quiet. Have a good flight. Cheers Steve
brilin_air Posted January 22, 2010 Author Posted January 22, 2010 Thanks Ross (Linda says hi) and Steve, I will give them a call and make sure we can land, the strip seems long enough . Many thanks Brian
