Guest Maj Millard Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Turboplanner, A great aircraft to see. When it was at Longbeach in the huge dome you could actually walk up into it, just ahead of the left wing. Once in the aircraft there was a perspex wall that you could look through into the huge belly. Go foward to another perspex wall and you could look into the cockpit area. Facinating, don't know if they have they same set up in the new location, but it would be a shame if they didn't as it gave you more appreciation for the aircraft if that's possible. The entrance area also put you in close proximity to the engines and props...............................Maj...
Guest Maj Millard Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Speaking of the Fledge, The Manta factory was in the San Fran area in San Leandro not far from Leading Edge Airfoils. I got to know Bill Armour the Manta owner pretty well, as I bought all the Alum tubing and many Fledge fittings from him, when I built the bipe. I also used a lot of Easy Riser stuff that I purchased from Lauro Mauro. The Pterydactyl was also built from Manta stuff, and was a modified Fledge wing. Bill and Larry were always very helpfull and their fittings were perfect.........................Maj...

Guest Maj Millard Posted February 19, 2010 Posted February 19, 2010 Just a note....if you Google Montepelier Airpark it comes up (the yellow push pin) on one abandoned WW2 airstrip, which is only used occasionally by Andrew Hicks when he is training in Trikes. If you scroll up from that, you will see another set of airstrips and some hangars which is actually Montpelier Airpark. The main primary strip running L to R at the bottom is also an ex-WW2 strip, and you can see part of it's original length at the LH end. The original airfield was used by P-39 Aerocobras and B-26 bombers to mount missions to the New Guinea area. These bombers would often return with dead or wounded on board, and they were unloaded at the end of the bottom strip where it ends at the creek on the left end. Maj...
